A group of Flamengo fans came this morning to the door of the Ninho do Urubu Training Center to protest against several players of the team. Despite the security presence of the club and also of police officers, who even used pepper spray to disperse the riots, fans hit the cars of several of the players of the rojinegro cast.
Although not all footballers were harassed — Giorgian De Arrascaeta and João Gomes passed without major problems, for example — the vast majority felt the fury of the fans. Gabriel Barbosa and David Luiz, two of the most high-profile members, rolled down the windows and talked to the fans.
Even a small group of fans were able to access the Ninho do Urubu venue to speak alone with Gabigol, who arrived in the Carioca team in 2019 and has won two Serie A titles, in addition to the Copa Libertadores.
According to the newspaper Globo Esporte, the fans carried banners with offensive messages and also took pictures of coffins with images of players such as Diego Alves, Arão and Diego. They also sang against some members of the board of directors, such as Vice President Marcos Braz. One of the most tense moments was when a person was arrested because he tried to take the gun out of a policeman's hand.
To every car that arrived at training, fans asked the driver to roll down the windows. One of the most harassed was Thiago Maia. Even, as can be seen in the images, one of the fans got into the front of his vehicle and hit the glass.
Recently, Flamengo fans had gone to the airport to protest against the players, just before the squad left for Peru. But the rojinegra delegation was able to escape the protest. Marcos Braz promised the fans that he would agree to a meeting with the first team, but the conversation was canceled and led to a day of chaos.
Although Mengão defeated Sporting Cristal in their debut in this edition of the Copa Libertadores, they come from losing the final of the Carioca championship to Fluminense, their classic rival. The Flu won 2-0 in the first leg and scored a 1-1 draw on the second leg, for which they won the trophy with a 3-1 cumulative result.
