Silver is one of the most sought-after metals in the world and is used mainly in jewelry that adorns women and men.

That is why we bring the recommendations of various jewelry stores, including those from Tiffany & Co. These will help us to know what kind of care we should take with the jewelry in order to keep it in good condition.

DAILY CARE

Silver tarnishes when exposed to salty air, chlorine, sulfur, moisture, perspiration, cosmetics, household bleach and other harsh chemicals. To avoid tarnishing (gloss) as much as possible, it is best to store fine jewelry in a safe and dry place after doing the following activities:

- Household and outdoor chores.

- Showering, bathing or swimming in pools, hot tubs, hot springs and the ocean.

- Use lotions, hair products, fragrances and other cosmetics.

- Exercise in the gym or during contact sports prepare meals.

HOW TO CLEAN SILVER JEWELRY

1. Apply a small amount of silver jewelry cleaner to a soft cloth.

2. Gently rub the silver with the cloth several times.

3. Rinse the silver thoroughly with warm water.

4. Dry and shine your silver with a jewellery cloth or polishing gloves. This will eliminate tarnish and restore shine.

OTHER WAYS TO CLEAN SILVER JEWELRY

There are homemade ways to clean silver jewelry and we will show them to you below.

Baking soda and water: If you find suggestions for using toothpaste, we recommend that you ignore that advice and use baking soda and water instead. When toothpastes were simple pastes that did not bleach or have a gel base, they could be used in your jewelry. However, they now include many more ingredients that can damage your silver. Instead, make a paste with baking soda and water, apply a small amount on a cloth or toothbrush and rub gently.

White vinegar and baking soda: This gentle cleaning method is excellent for removing tarnish. Soak the silver in ½ cup of white vinegar and 2 tablespoons of baking soda (combine them in the sink and prepare for fizz and froth) for two to three hours. Rinse the jewelry and dry it very well.

Finish with a polisher: After you have thoroughly cleaned your jewelry, you can finish the process using a silver-specific polishing cloth.

You can repeat this process as many times as necessary. Remember, the key to keeping your fine silver jewelry clean is to continue with regular cleanings to remove tarnish as it builds up. Your work becomes much more difficult if you let a piece accumulate a lot of tarnish and then try to remove it all at once.

HOW TO STORE YOUR SILVER JEWELLERY

Use an airtight container: Any container can be used to store your silver jewellery, as long as it is airtight. Zip-lock bags are great, but you can also find special jewelry bags as a more attractive option.

Keep in a cool, dark place: sunlight, heat and moisture accelerate tarnish (shine). Be sure to store your silver in a cool, dark place.

Store the pieces individually: Storing your pieces separately avoids any chance of the jewelry being scratched or tangled with each other.

TIP: Avoid storing in paper, cardboard or cotton boxes because they will contribute to tarnish.
