In Cali, the cultural sector is in mourning. Gloria Delgado Restrepo, the former director of the La Tertulia Museum, passed away on April 5, the museum confirmed the death of the director until a few years ago.
Together with Maritza Uribe, Gloria Delgado won the national and international recognition of the La Tertulia Museum within the continent's artistic and museum circuit. “We remember Gloria Delgado as a permanent enthusiast with a tireless spirit. We are infinitely grateful for his artistic, historical and cultural legacy and extend the sincere affections to his family.”
“Today we say goodbye with deep sadness to Gloria Delgado Restrepo, who was the director of the La Tertulia Museum between 1972 and 2003, when she accompanied Maritza Uribe de Urdinola as a colleague and ally in the cultural management of this institution. Together they achieved national and international recognition of the museum within the artistic and museum circuit of the continent”, were the words that the La Tertulia Museum dedicated to it in a publication accompanied by a photograph of its former director.
The institution said it will remember Delgado as “a permanent enthusiast with a tireless spirit.” In addition, he thanked for “his artistic, historical and cultural legacy and we extend the most sincere affections to his family”.
Maritza Uribe de Urdinola, current director of the La Tertulia Museum, stressed that Delgado's work allowed the museum to become a cultural and artistic reference in Colombia. “Gloria's life was put to citizen service,” he added.
The Ministry of Culture of Cali also expressed its condolences on its social networks.
The Jorge Garcés Borrero Departmental Library joined the voices that lamented the death of the former director of the La Tertulia Museum and thanked them for all their years in the service of the International Literature Festival Oiga Mire Lea. “We have his smile and intellectual contribution to our institution,” he noted in networks.
Yesterday, Wednesday, April 6, a eucharist was celebrated for his death in the Votive Temple of the Sacred Heart, in Cali.
Following messages lamenting the death of Gloria Delgado, the governor of Valle del Cauca, Clara Luz Roldán, wrote on her Twitter account: “We fired a woman fighter, who gave her life and passion to culture and literature. Unconditional always with the Jorge Garcés Borrero Departmental Library and the Oiga Mire Lea Festival. Peace at the tomb of Gloria Delgado Restrepo. Fortress for family and friends, and the family of the vallecaucana culture”.
In the same vein, Dilian Francisca Toro, former governor of the Valle and current director of the La U party, said “I regret the departure of Gloria Delgado Restrepo, founder and former director of the La Tertulia Museum. We will always remember her as a benchmark of Vallecaucana culture, leading projects such as the Oiga Mire Lea Festival. My solidarity with their families and relatives,” he said.
The La Tertulia Museum
Founded in 1956 by Maritza Uribe de Urdinola, it has a collection of nearly 2,000 works of American art, exhibited in different thematic and monographic exhibitions in the Collection Rooms.
The museum is currently located on Avenida Colombia, in the west of the capital of Valle del Cauca, on the banks of the Cali River and has a variety of exhibition halls, an auditorium-cinematheque, an open-air theater, several spaces for workshops and educational rooms, and a large garden area open to the public.
