Federico Gutiérrez's message to businessmen about the elections: “It is a discussion between two economic, social and political models”

The presidential candidate of the Team for Colombia highlighted the importance of having these approaches with the business sector. “The country will continue to grow economically.”

Presidential candidate Federico Gutiérrez met in recent hours with the National Trade Union Council (CGN) to publicize some of his proposals, after having officially presented his government program. The business organization, although it expressed common ground with the candidate of the so-called Team for Colombia, did not announce any adherence to Gutiérrez's campaign and, on the contrary, invited the other candidates to also dialogue with them and socialize their electoral proposals.

For Gutiérrez, this type of approach and invitation from the unions of the productive sector in Colombia, “serves to expose our government program and to give a message that what we have to do here is work as a team and for the country”.

“In democracy and freedoms, the country will continue to grow economically, socially and close social gaps,” said the former mayor of Medellín, who also spoke about some of the problems facing the country, such as inflation or food. The candidate of the Team for Colombia said that one of the main concerns of businessmen is the “instability” that could be generated if democracy is lost.

“The great concern that entrepreneurs have is the instability that could be generated by the loss of democracy and freedoms. It is not a discussion between two people, it is a discussion between two economic, social and political models. Some want to expropriate and we want to defend free enterprise and private property,” said the candidate.

Gutiérrez also made an invitation to “not only take care of the domestic and foreign investment we have, but to attract much more investment. My call to Colombian entrepreneurs is that it is not the time to get money out of Colombia. It's time to invest in Colombia. To believe in Colombia, to be optimistic”.

On the other hand, the president of the CGN, Jaime Alberto Cabal, who had extended the invitation to all the candidates a few days ago, reiterating that the idea “is that Colombians make a decision based on what each of the candidates proposes, deepening how viable their implementation is in practice and what repercussions they have for citizens”, said the meeting with Federico Gutiérrez as positive.

“We had a very cordial meeting, in which we had the opportunity to have a dialogue on the different issues that concern the country's business community. To the solution of the big problems. The reduction of poverty, the fight against corruption, informality, employment generation and the structural reforms that Colombia needs”,

He added that they found several coincidences with the proposals of the Team's candidate for Colombia and the interests of the organization. “Some very fundamental ones. Colombia's entrepreneurship, which is 96% composed of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, values the defense of our democratic system and economic freedoms. Likewise, the right to private property”.
