Holy Week begins in Colombia and with it one of the most popular holiday seasons for Colombians. For this reason, the Bogotá District Tourism Institute (IDT) announced four plans that those from Bogotá or travelers arriving in the capital of the country should not miss during their visit to the most important Colombian city.

An unmissable plan during the holy days in the city is to take a tour of some of Bogotá's 300 parishes that house stories of the founding of the capital, and which also allow travelers and citizens to remember Jesus' journey from the last supper to his crucifixion.

Among the seven emblematic temples in Bogotá that you cannot miss is the Church of San Francisco and Franciscan Palace, built between 1586 and 1611, which stands out for its carved wood ornamentation and for commemorating Jesus' journey from the last supper to when Judas betrayed him.

The Church of the Third, built between 1761 and 1780; the Primate Cathedral of Colombia, seat of the archbishopric of Bogotá and symbol of the city; Church of La Candelaria, built between 1686 and 1703; Nuestra Señora del Carmen Church (1926 - 1938), the only Florentine Gothic temple in the country; Church of San Augustine, built in 1668, and the San Ignacio Church, whose construction took nearly 90 years to complete.

The hill of Monserrate is one of the favorite pilgrimage sites for the faithful during Holy Week. There, every year, hundreds of people go up there to thank the fallen Lord, ask for favors and, incidentally, to enjoy the incredible views that the sanctuary offers of all of Bogotá.

In addition to visiting one of the most emblematic sanctuaries in the city, you can also take advantage of your visit to the site to visit the Xacobeo Landmark, a religious symbol that represents the Camino de Santiago de Compostela in the Spanish region of Galicia, which was inaugurated on March 16.
