Despite improving its confidence index, Mexico was left out of the 25 most attractive countries for investment internationally because it had a consecutive year, according to the finding conducted by the consultancy firm Kearney.
According to Ricardo Haneine Haua, partner of the firm, although the country is close to entering the list and advanced in its position, it still does not reach the top spots due to the institutional changes and reforms promoted, such as the electric one.
At a press conference, he indicated that Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) has remained relatively stable and has continued to drive the modern sector of the economy with higher dynamic growth, although its share of imports from the United States is still below its potential given the proactivity of Asian countries in low cost.
In this regard, the firm's partner commented that by maintaining the position of the CFE, the entire industry in the country will have a competitiveness gap due to the fact that electricity would be more expensive if Andrés Manuel López Obrador's reform is approved; in addition, pressures on autonomous bodies also affect investment.
It was in 2020 that Mexico stopped appearing in Kearney's 25 most attractive nations to invest in, which it had appeared since 2011, due to uncertainty about changing regulatory frameworks in various productive sectors.
The consultancy stressed at the time that the country was left out of the index, even with the entry into force of the Treaty between Mexico, the United States and Canada (T-MEC); a year later it was again absent due to the reform of the electricity industry, the initiative to regulate subcontracting and the termination of public trusts.
