Denise Dresser rushed against Supreme Court for 'Bartlett Law': “Putting the country's future at risk”

The SCJN considered the Electricity Industry Act constitutional, which caused the opposition to discontent

During the afternoon of this Thursday, the bill of the Electrical Industry Law (LIE) was declared constitutional after a session in the plenary session of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN).

The approval was issued after not reaching enough votes to be declared unconstitutional by ministers, as 7 voted against the LIE while only 4 voted in favor of its constitutionality.

This caused the indignation of political scientists, analysts and politicians, considering that the reform benefits the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), which would cause the detriment of competitiveness in the electricity sector, as well as giving lower priority to investment in renewable energy projects.

For this reason, the political scientist and critic of Andrés Manuel López Obrador's government, Denise Dresser, also took a stand against this approval.

Through his official Twitter account, he compared the SCJN to a train that is sometimes fast and at others to one that does not effectively fulfill its obligations.

“The SCJN sometimes behaves like a fast, sparkling train. But sometimes it becomes a delayed, old, rusty train that doesn't arrive in time for crucial appointments with history,” Dresser wrote.

And he ended by lashing out against the decision of the SCJN in the validation of the LIE, which he called the “Bartlett Law”: “Today, by validating #LeyBartlett, he sent Mexico to the last car, putting the country's future at risk.”

The publication was answered by Citlali Hernández, Morena's secretary general, who demanded that the fellow journalist argue her comment: “Why? Tell us. Give us arguments”, not counting the numerous comments of other users who supported or condemned Dresser's publication.

Similarly, Javier Lozano broke out against the four ministers whom he accused for having voted against the action of unconstitutional. He also appointed the four ministers (Arturo Zaldivar, Loretta Ortiz, Jasmine Esquivel and Alfredo Gutiérrez Ortiz Mena) and added their photos, expecting that” They were exhibited.”

But he said that after the show of opposition against “With this, the door is open for applications for amparo to be filed, which, surely, will be granted”, which will delay the approval of the project.

However, it was considered that through the decision taken, especially by the vote in favor of the president minister of the SCJN, Arturo Zaldivar, the Court is subordinate to the government of the Republic.

This law was called the “Bartlett Act” because it seeks to give priority to the CFE, which is headed by the controversial politician Emmanuel Bartlett Díaz, as an energy producer in the country. In addition to scrapping previous contracts made with private companies.

In addition, the letter of the ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar, in which he mentioned that the United States respects Mexico's sovereignty, is added, but mentioned that it was the adoption of the Act before the Court is worrying.

Since the LIE “of 2021 will probably open the door to endless litigation, generating uncertainty and obstructing investment”, as well as obstructing competitiveness with the United States.

Likewise, the commercial representative of the US government, Katherine Tai, shared a letter to Tatiana Clouthier in which she mentions that with the LIE she puts more than 10 billion dollars invested in energy production at risk.
