Darwin Espinoza asks Acción Popular to desist from questioning Aníbal Torres

The congressman was named by Karelim López as one of the legislators of the bench within the group 'Los Niños', who met with the president strategically.

Congressman Darwin Espinoza (Popular Action) sent a letter to the spokesman of his bench, Elvis Vergara Mendoza, asking them to withdraw the interpellation motion against Prime Minister Aníbal Torres.

“Promoting interpellation, and then giving way to censorship by the President of the Council of Ministers Aníbal Torres Vásquez, because there would be enough votes, would mean increasing the current instability and misrule, since the entire Torres cabinet would automatically fall,” the document reads.

“Faced with this scenario, as a Bancada we must come up with other democratic formulas or solutions seeking the national interest, not giving up our supervisory powers and political control,” he said.

It should be noted that the congressman was singled out by businesswoman Karelim López as a member of 'Los niños', because they obeyed everything the president said.

DESIGNATED AS PART OF 'LOS NIÑOS'

Businesswoman Karelim López, an aspiring collaborator in an investigation into money laundering, pointed out five congressmen from the Popular Action Bank (AP) involved with President Pedro Castillo and former Secretary of the Government Palace, Bruno Pacheco.

They are Juan Carlos Mori and Raúl Felipe Doroteo. According to an investigation by El Comercio, Jorge Luis Flores, Darwin Espinoza and Ilich López are also suspected, who have participated in different meetings with senior officials.

Doroteo had six meetings with ministers or President Pedro Castillo between August 2021 and February 2022, and was accompanied by a 'boy' at one of these four events. He agreed with Juan Carlos Mori twice, one of them before Aníbal Torres was sworn in as prime minister.

On the other hand, all the five alleged persons involved in Acción Popular gathered at the Government Palace on the night of August 25, 2021, when the plenary session of the Congress was debating Guido Bellido's vote of confidence in the Cabinet. On that occasion they spent more than two hours with the president, accompanied by the legislator of Peru Libre, Oscar Zea, and other members of the lampa such as Luis Aragon, Marleny Portero López, Wilson Soto Palacios and spokesman Elvis Vergara. All those mentioned voted in favor of the Bellido cabinet's trust.

Doroteo and Ilich López met again with Pedro Castillo on December 6, when the head of state had summoned the leaders of the political parties to dialogue before the debate on the admission of a vacancy motion against them. In the end, the entire Popular Action bench voted against it.

Juan Carlos Mori records 14 meetings with President Pedro Castillo and other ministers between August 2021 and February 2022. And on those four dates he would have been accompanied by an alleged 'child'. He also had a two-hour conversation with then-Prime Minister Guido Bellido.

DARWIN ESPINOZA TALKS ABOUT THIS RELATIONSHIP

Congressman Darwin Espinoza pointed out that this argument was being used to break up the accio-populist bench.

“We should ask them (because of the AP summons), I have no connection with Mrs. Karelim Lopez, she hasn't mentioned me. (...) I haven't read the summons, but I know what it is about. The same secretary of discipline has come to my office to say that she wants me to introduce myself, I have told her that with great pleasure, but I have no connection with Karelim López,” she told Canal N.

At the time, Espinoza argued that there was an interest in the bench to use this issue and pressure some congressmen to vote for the vacancy.
