(Bloomberg) — Tesla Inc. will begin manufacturing next year three products that have fallen far behind Elon Musk's original schedule, the CEO said at the opening of the company's newest factory.

“We'll be in production with the Cybertruck next year, we'll be in production with the Roadster and the Semi,” said the billionaire on stage at the company's “Cyber Rodeo” on Thursday night in Austin, Texas. “This year it's all about scaling, and then next year, there will be a massive wave of new products.”

When Musk, 50, unveiled Tesla's angular pickup in November 2019, he noted that production would start at the end of 2021. The electric vehicle manufacturer announced in January that it would delay the introduction of new models until next year due to difficulties in increasing existing products due to supply chain problems.

Musk showed prototypes of the Semi and the next generation of the Roadster in November 2017. Both are much more behind than the Cybertruck. At the time of its presentation, initial production was scheduled for 2019 and 2020, respectively.

Despite all the deadlines that Tesla has missed, the automaker has been on wheels since it introduced the Model Y, whose first Texas-made units were delivered during the event.

With the entry into operation of the new factories in Austin and near Berlin, BloombergNEF analysts hope that Model Y will be the best-selling electric vehicle in the world this year, and that it will be in the top five among all vehicles, whether electric or not.

Drones and shiba inu

Tesla obtained a permit to welcome 15,000 people at its grand opening in Austin, which was filled with art installations and a group of Model Y ready to make them look like the Texas state flag. The event began with hundreds of drones flying in the night sky to form the state of Texas, a Cybertruck and a shiba inu dog.

Musk took the stage in a first-generation Roadster and joked with Franz von Holzhausen, Tesla's chief designer, about breaking the windows of an updated version of the Cybertruck.

“I can't wait to have this baby in production,” said Musk. “It's going to be epic.”

Musk uttered his usual series of superlatives, calling the Austin facility “the most advanced automobile factory Earth has ever seen.” Tesla showed images of the larger 4680 battery cells that Musk said were being manufactured at the plant.

“We believe that, over time, this will probably be the largest cell factory in the world,” he said. Musk made a similar prediction in November 2020, when he said that the Tesla plant that was being built near Berlin would be the largest in the world.

Car Manufacturing Of

course, Tesla has complied with some of its CEO's statements regarding scale. Last year, the company produced more cars at its factory in Fremont, California, than at any other assembly plant in North America. Musk said that Austin will become the largest automobile factory in the United States, without giving a deadline.

After Musk's remarks, fireworks lit up the night sky to the sound of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony.

The party attracted dozens of fans, including actor Harrison Ford. He was seen in the VIP lounge along with Musk's mother Maye and his brother, Kimbal, a member of Tesla's board.

Some fans who arrived at the factory lit with strobes in the hope of entering without tickets were turned away by Tesla's safety.
