Eight years after the hijacking of an Islamist plane turned into a bloodbath, a CIA agent must investigate the main suspect: his ex-lover.

Prime Video is making a concrete commitment to espionage films or secret agents. As if it were a statement of principles, he released All The Old Knives, his new original film, and almost at the same time he uploaded the entire James Bond film collection. In addition to that, it has in its catalog, house projects of the same genre: Bosch and recently Reacher, two series based on novels that bet again on the police.

In this context, a project at the height of All The Old Knives marks a path where Prime Video wants to go. But beyond that, it is a title not to stop paying attention to it for its proposal and cast.

The synopsis presents the main case: “When the CIA discovers that one of its agents disseminated information that cost the lives of more than 100 people, veteran agent Henry Pelham (Chris Pine) is assigned to discover the infiltrator among his former office mates at the agency's station in Vienna. His research takes him from Australia to England, to California where he meets with a former colleague and former lover, Celia Harrison (Thandiwe Newton). The pair are forced to erase the lines between profession and passion in this captivating story of global espionage, moral ambiguity and deadly betrayal.”

All the Old Knives is based on the book of the same name by Olen Steinhauer who is also the screenwriter of the film. He has several novels, including “The Tourist”. The best point of his career was found in spy novels and he got to the point of receiving an important praise from Stephen King who shared it with John Le Carre (” Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy” and “The Spy Who Came in From The Cold”). “A good spy novel is good for the same reasons as any good work of fiction. Realism is not absolutely necessary,” he said in an interview with Mulholland Books.

The fiction stars Chris Pine as Henry, who comes from playing Jack Ryan in the 2014 film Shadow Code. He is accompanied by Thandiwe Newton as Celia and is known for Westworld and films like Solo: A Star Wars Story and Crash. The cast is very complete and high-flying: Laurence Fishburne as the boss of these two characters and is accompanied by Jonathan Pryce, best known for playing The High Sparrow in Game of Thrones and Prince Philip in subsequent seasons of The Crown. He was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor for his role as Pope Francis in The Two Popes and today he works on Apple TV+'s Slow Horses.

Directed by acclaimed Danish director Janus Metz (Borg vs. McEnroe, 2017) and written by Olen Steinhauer, the feature was intended for cinemas, but eventually ended up in the Prime Video catalog. In the United States it reached some theaters, but in Latin America it went straight to the platform.

All the Old Knives premiered on Friday, April 8, on Prime Video.
