On April 7, Bogotá Auctions will hold its 46th auction, in which 84 works of modern and contemporary Colombian and Latin American art will be available, a selection of the best of national and continental plastic arts.

On the selection of the works, Alessandro Armato, an art specialist at Bogotá Auctions, commented that, “this pre-selection allows buyers to follow their tastes and purchase works of art, sometimes including masterpieces, at prices usually much lower than in galleries.”

Among the most outstanding lots are a large geometric canvas by Omar Rayo (Fluffy Footprint of the Wind VII, from 2005), two oil paintings by master Santiago Cárdenas (Green Slate with White Chalk, from 2012, and Glass with Envelope, from 1998), a nude in charcoal and sanguine on paper by Fernando Botero, as well as a monumental painting acrylic by Alejandro Obregón, entitled Mistral.

A must have in the auction is Luis Caballero, with two pieces, a colossal nude from the back of his maturity period and a piece from 1969 in which he deals with a neo-figurative language; there is also a large charcoal (ca. 1976) by Oscar Muñoz, belonging to the series that served as the seed for the later Tenants, and an excellent 1967 work by Noé León, which by quality of execution and subject represented can be signed as one of the best examples of the work of the primitivist master.

In addition, and to complete the most outstanding works by Latin American artists is the Brazilian Antonio Henrique Amaral, who is performing with Sozinho in green, an important 1973 oil painting in which a tethered banana (the banana series, made between 1968 and 1975, is the artist's best known) is a metaphor for the military dictatorship of the time and the position of Brazil in all democratic countries.

In addition, the auction will feature a large female participation with a sober drawing by painter and sculptor Ana Mercedes Hoyos, an oil on paper by teacher Beatriz González, two paintings by Emma Reyes, a naif style oil by Sofia Urrutia, a solid still life by painter Freda Sargent, a sculpture made from the assembly of screws and nuts by Claudia Hakim, a sculpture by Alicia Tafur, among other important artists.

The oldest work at the auction is the portrait of Adolphine Koppel by Ramón Torres Méndez, made in 1863. The most expensive works are those of teachers Fernando Botero and Omar Rayo with a value of $90 million.

The auction will take place on Thursday, April 7 at 8:00 p.m. at the Bogota Auctions headquarters (Cll 70 # 10 A 59).

Those interested in bidding for a work can do so in person, online and by phone. For more information you can visit the Bogota Auctions page and consult the catalogue.

Bogotá Auctions and art as an investment

In recent years, it has established itself as one of the most important auction houses in Colombia, which, according to Alessandro Armato, art specialist at Bogotá Auctions, “proposes to constantly boost and expand the Colombian art market, giving it greater visibility nationally and internationally. Doing an important cultural function: that of keeping the market alive, and with this, the memory of many artists of the past who are no longer present in art galleries”.

In addition, he pointed out that art also represents an excellent investment alternative to diversify their assets or protect their savings in the face of the recent increasing volatility of international financial markets.
