Faced with the severe drought that the state of Nuevo León is suffering, Governor Samuel García called on the population this Thursday to avoid double baths and fill the pools to supply the aquifers before the “calorones” season.
At a press conference, the president emecista said that the work done by the state and federal governments to solve the water shortage will be of little use if citizens do not take care of it from their homes. In addition, he warned that in the coming weeks the temperature could rise to 40 degrees Celsius.
“It is very important to tell people that the calorones come here; here comes Easter. I tell you with all sincerity: so many trips and so many investments are going to be of no use. All this recovery of private wells to the government will not be of any use if we don't take care of consumption. All this effort and investment will be of no use if we don't take care of consumption”
“Help Water and Drainage with all the campaigns we have, do it, save. It can raise the temperature up to 40 degrees. That's no reason to throw out the water, or double bathrooms. Or filling pools,” he added.
His administration has taken steps to obtain authorization to start drinking water from the Potosí River, already concessioned for the Libertad dam, which is currently 30% complete. However, Garcia clarified that it is impossible to finish this project in a short period, before the rainy season arrives.
“We are really hopeful that the rain will come. And I'm telling you: it's the only short-term solution we have. The rain. It is physically, legally and financially impossible to build an aqueduct or dam in two months. It's impossible.”
