Good news for Peruvian education! A technology career joins the list of undergraduate options at the National University of Engineering (UNI) and is the Engineering career of Cybersecurity, where students by profession will be able to obtain the degree of Cybersecurity Engineer.

To achieve this approval, UNI had to undergo rigorous tests imposed by the National Superintendency of Higher University Education (Sunedu), entity that is responsible for verifying compliance with the provisions of the University Law, the rules on licensing, the rules on educational use of public resources and/or benefits granted by the legal framework to universities, basic quality conditions for offering the education service, among other aspects more related to higher university education.

TESTS FOR THE CREATION OF A NEW CAREER

The resolution in which the approval of the Cybersecurity Engineering degree can be observed is No. 024-2022-SUNEDU/CD, whose publication was made through the official newspaper El Peruano. This degree was approved to be taught in the face-to-face mode.

To receive approval for the creation of the race in question, UNI had to do the following:

- Demonstrate that you have the requested requirements.

- Demonstrate that you have the academic quality standards required for the dictation of the aforementioned professional career. This includes the following: having a curriculum for the requested program; having laboratories and equipment to offer courses with hours of practice, as well as physical and virtual bibliographic collections, among others.

- To have ten sub-lines of research in the field of telecommunications and information technologies. This item is promoted by the National Institute for Telecommunications Research and Training (INICTEL-UNI).

- Have support in donations and funding from Seoul National University of Science and Technology (SEOulTech University).

TEACHERS TRAINED IN CYBERSECURITY

UNI developed a training program in Cybersecurity and SEOulTech University trained teachers who will be part of the curricular network of the new career, both activities framed in the memorandum of understanding signed in January 2020 between the aforementioned universities.

This training was conducted through three specialized courses and are: Security in Cloud Computing Platform, AI-based Security and Web Application Security. In the case of the first two, they have already finished in March and the last course will end this week.

WHEN WILL I BE ABLE TO APPLY FOR THE NEW RACE?

As the creation of the career has been approved this month, all interested students and professionals will be able to apply to Cybersecurity Engineering from the second academic semester of this year, that is, 2022 II.

The aforementioned degree will be within the Faculty of Electronic and Electrical Engineering (FIEEE).

DURATION OF THE CYBERSECURITY ENGINEERING CAREER

The race will last five years. Upon completion of this period, graduates will be able to access bachelor's and professional degrees.

Until now, this profession was only taught at the institute level (short career) and postgraduate specialization.

The benefits of adding it at the university level are many, because it covers an academic and professional level that will contribute to various areas, including social, productive and technological, since all of them require the presence of professionals specializing in cybersecurity in response to changes in technological trends in Peru and the world in general.
