In 2022, the National Autonomous University of Mexico ranked 105th among the best universities in the QS World University Rankings, dropping 5 places compared to the previous year, in the count. At the Latin American level, it ranks second only to the University of Buenos Aires, which is among the 69 best in the world.
The university of the nation has a percentage of 94.6 in academic reputation, obtained based on the opinion of 130 thousand people who rated the quality of teaching. She also stood out for her prestige as an employer, a criterion that measures the degree of usefulness of the preparation for the labor market that she offers and in which she obtained a score of 93.2 percent, calculated on the basis of 75 thousand responses received in a survey.
Among the areas that have contributed the most to the good positioning of the highest house of studies is sociology, which maintains its academic prestige and reputation as a supplier of tools for the world of work above 85 percent. The engineering companies that this year have climbed twelve places compared to 2021, were also key.
The 1,300 participating universities were also evaluated based on other criteria such as the number of citations in academic papers in a five-year period, where the university scored 3 out of 5 possible points and the ratio of students to foreign academics, where it was rated 6.4 percent.
Through these axes, Quacquarelli Symonds, a British organization specializing in education and studies abroad, measured the quality of research, as well as the ability to attract teachers and students from all over the world, suggesting a strong international academic program.
It is worth mentioning that the Universidad Autónoma de México maintained an uninterrupted rise in this world ranking for six years, from ranking 175 in 2015 to 100 in 2021. It was until 2022 that progress was interrupted, by going back 5 positions.
While in Latin America it is still one of the best higher education centers, with percentages of 100% in reputation, international research networks and web impact. With an overall score of 58.3%, it currently ranks second, below the University of Buenos Aires, which has 67.9% and followed by the University of Sao Paulo, with 55.9%.
The universities that competed closely with UNAM in this edition were the University of Helsinki, which surpassed it by one place and that of Geneva, with which it shares the 105th position. The 100th place, occupied by the Mexican university in 2021, was reached by the University of North Carolina on this occasion.
On a global scale, in the top 3, there were two American and one British high schools: Cambridge, Oxford and Stanford. It should be noted that this time they had greater competition, as QS reported that this year's ranking of universities is the largest in its history.
Those responsible for this ranking seek to provide future university students with a comparison tool that will allow them to shorten their list of options to pursue higher education. In this regard, in addition to the results of the classification, it offers a detailed profile of each institution, ranging from the degree programs available to the facilities and tuition fees.
