These are the measures that Bogotá will implement at Easter

Mayor Claudia López indicated that the capital will have a regional peak and plate for the return of travelers on Sunday, April 17

The mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López, presented this Thursday the security measures and the mobility plan that she will apply in the capital during Easter. The president also commented on what will be the ascent to the Monserrate trail, the bike path and the regional peak and plate.

“We are preparing for Holy Week, a very special season of reflection for citizens and for those who profess the Catholic faith,” López said at a press conference. The mayor recalled that during these dates it is common for the people of Bogota to leave the city and, in turn, thousands of tourists arrive.

Mobility plan

The district expects that around 760,000 vehicles will be mobilized between April 8 and 17. For that reason, the Ministry of Mobility and the Traffic Police and Bogotá - Metropolitan Region have arranged human and logistical teams for the return plan.

In addition, there will be nine corridors to exit and enter the city, there will be traffic plans, transit equipment, logistics and cranes that will support the movement of travelers to be carried out smoothly.

On Sunday, April 17, the regional peak and plate will operate for the return of travelers. “This regional peak and plate has been a success, it has allowed people to return quietly, with less accident, with greater flow, adequate and prudent speed, and in a more comfortable way,” said the mayor.

The measure will work at the following times:

- 00:00 to 12:00 m. There will be no entry restrictions.

- 12:00am to 4:00pm. Only cars whose last digit of the license plate is an even number, that is, those ending in 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8, may enter Bogotá.

- 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Vehicles with odd license plates, i.e. 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 may enter.

Parishes and the Monserrate Trail

Claudia López pointed out that there are more than 300 parishes in Bogotá where a security and coexistence mechanism is required. For this reason, the district defined a team of 3,396 police officers, who will accompany the different celebrations that take place during the Major Week. Uniformed personnel will also accompany activities taking place on trails, cemeteries, shopping centers, market squares, transport terminals and El Dorado airport.

For their part, the District Institute for Risk Management (Idiger) and the District Institute for Recreation and Sport (IDRD) defined what the schedule will be like to climb the trail and go to the church of Monserrate. For Sunday 10, Thursday 14, Friday 15, Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 April the promotion schedule will be from 5:00 in the morning to 12:00 noon.

“The climb to the hill is not recommended for pregnant women, older adults, and children who are less than one meter tall. The accompaniment of pets will also be restricted,” explained the mayor's office. Likewise, on April 12, the Monserrate trail will be closed and on April 16 there will be no bike path in Bogotá.

The local president stressed that the capital is ready for the exodus and return of Bogotá, as well as for the arrival of tourists. “Welcome all Colombians to commemorate Holy Week in Bogotá,” López said.

It should be remembered that during Easter Week the Padlock Plan will be maintained. It has 34 mixed control points, made up of members of the Police and the National Army, at the entrances, exits, main roads and strategic points of Bogotá.
