The crime situation in Chocó, triggers the alarms of the local authorities, as the escalation of violence has besieged this capital in the last week. Despite the call to attention of the municipal administration, State measures have been few, since social assistance and the immediate presence of the authorities have been extended in view of the magnitude of the problem.

The mayor of Quibdó, Martín Emilio Sánchez Valencia, demands the urgent support of the National Government, points out that his call is being ignored by him, leaving them adrift today in the midst of this dire situation, Sánchez holds the National Government responsible for the situation facing Quibdo, and makes serious remarks to the overflow of violence.

Sánchez Valencia, said: “Last night there was violence in Quibdo, where two people were killed and two injured, in the afternoon clashes between the police and the bandits continued. So far this year in the city of Quibdó we have had 61 homicides, that is a figure that frightens all citizens, this situation exceeds the administrative capacity we have, we hold the National Government responsible for what continues to happen in our city”.

Similarly, W Radio can establish contact with the president, who stressed that deaths have doubled so far in 2022, corresponding to this belligerent context that has emerged since 2012, however, according to statistics; Mayor Valencia assures that, in 2020, there were 152 deaths in total, but compared to the current year, the number may be higher if timely action is not taken.

In his analysis of the panorama, the mayor of Quibdó said: “We have been in a crime explosion since 2012, where there were 127 deaths and in 2020 there were 152 deaths, and this year what I am saying is that to date we have had 61 deaths doubling the year immediately before. On this same date, that is to say that the rate at which we are going to reach infinite deaths and the end of youth in our city, we ask ourselves, will it be that the lives of young people in other cities are worth more than that of young people in Quibdo? Why is a situation that is overdiagnosed not given due attention.”

In turn, the local president indicated that a meeting was held with the Director of Human Rights, however, there was no strong response that could give them peace of mind, since everything was postponed until the second week of May, despite the fact that there are already several alerts from the Office of the Ombudsman.

Meanwhile, according to the data of violence this week in the city, the clashes have left the civilian population in the middle, as both older adults and infants have been injured, and a servant of the security forces was also affected by these regrettable events. Although a security device will be sent to Quibdo in the next few hours, the situation remains alarming.

The official calls for timely attention and permanent vigilance, in order to show the reality of a region condemned throughout history to conflict, despite its cultural, natural and social wealth, Sanchez stressed: “At this time, we have not received any response from the National Government and we are desperate, this It is beyond the capacity that we have as an administration, there have been children injured; two nights ago or an 8-year-old girl injured, older adults killed by this situation, a patrolman injured yesterday, is a desperate situation and that one finds nothing more to do, but to keep knocking on the door. how many more dead do we have to put in order for them to pay attention to us?” .
