After the work stoppage, due to the negotiation of the new Collective Labor Agreement in the Major League Baseball (MLB), which delayed the start of the 2022 season, Opening Day is coming. The opening match will be played next Thursday, April 7, when six of the ten Colombian players will be able to watch action.

The first to hit the field will be Oscar Mercado with the Cleveland Guardians against the Royals, which will be played at 3:10 in the afternoon. In 2021, statistics indicate that the Cartagenero hit 48 hits, hit six home runs, impulse 19 runs and had a batting average of .224.

Then it will be the turn of Jose Quintana, who was signed this season by the Pittsburgh Pirates, his rival will be the San Luis Cardinals. In the previous season with San Francisco, Quintana opened 10 games as a pitcher, managing to strike out 85 opponents and having a low average base by balls.

The Cincinnati Reds will have one of the most anticipated debuts for Colombian fans, as Donovan Solano will have the opportunity to hit his first hits. There he shares a team with fellow Colombian Reiver Sanmartin. The Colombians' team match will be at 7:08 at night against the Atlanta Braves.

Finally, in the closing match of Thursday, April 7, the San Diego Padres will be in charge of the San Diego Padres with Nabil Crismatt and Jorge 'el Oso' Alfaro. The match will begin at 8:10 at night and will be against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Giovanny Urshela's debut will be Friday, April 8, with the Minnesota Twins against the Seattle Mariners. Along with the barranquillero will be Jhon Romero. Finally, the Tampa Bay Rays with Luis Patiño and Harold Ramirez will face the Baltimore Orioles this very day.

The agreement was confirmed a day after MLB announced the rescheduling of Opening Day until April 14, as well as the definitive cancellation of the first four series for all clubs. However, with the new agreement, the 2022 season will feature 162 matches, while the canceled series will be rescheduled to nine-inning doubles.

Among the most important changes regarding the Collective Agreement that expired in December 2021, it was confirmed that 12 teams will participate in the postseason. The minimum wage will also have an increase, although the official figure has not been confirmed, while there will be a new pre-arbitration bond fund to provide financial incentives to younger players.

There will be a new Lottery Draft system and a possible International Draft will be evaluated. In the matches, the figure of the universal designated batsman will be introduced. Similarly, when a match is extended to extra innings, teams will no longer have a runner on second base to start the additional innings. In addition, there will be a limit to how many times a player can be sent to minor divisions during the season.

One of the most important changes will be the formation of a Joint Competition Committee. The new figure will have participation since the 2023 season and will have direct interference in the modification of the rules of the game, as the former CBA allowed the MLB to make unilateral changes to the rules one year in advance. The new group will consist of four active players, six members elected by MLB and one umpire.
