The Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice sentenced the former rector of the Autonomous University of the Caribbean, Silvia Gette, to five years in prison, who was first prosecuted for appropriating one million dollars belonging to the school in 2007.

The Court's decision overturned the acquittal that had been issued by the Barranquilla Superior Court in April 2021. The determination had already been appealed by the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation as well as by the lawyer for victims in the case.
