Dating app Ashley Madison did a revealing study that uncovered the truth about who they are the most infidels.
As part of the religious holidays that are celebrated annually, the platform took advantage of resolving a question that inhabits many people. Are religious more or less faithful to their partners? Does religion not allow them to be unfaithful?
Faced with these and other questions, the technology platform revealed that 66% of infidels are believers. This could be a great disappointment for those who believed that devotion to a divinity encouraged people not to betray their partner.
“It could be assumed that infidels do not identify with any religion or have any kind of moral compass, but our data reveals that many of our members are in fact very devoted to their religion and that their religion does little to affect it. ” says Christoph Kraemer, executive director for Latin America at Ashley Madison.
The study, based on a survey of more than 3,600 people during 2021, also indicates that for 37% religious beliefs are an important part or even the center of their lives, and that only 17% are atheists or agnostics.
Catholics: The survey revealed that they have a more satisfying sex life, as 28% of them have sex a couple of times a week with the main partner and 17% of them have sex with their cheating partner at least once a week.
Atheists and Agnostics: Those who are part of this group are more faithful, since it is 26% less common for their spouse to have unofficial affairs. However, they seem to have less sexual activity than Catholics; of the infidels, only 17% would have sex a couple of times a week with their primary partner and 10% once a week with the affair partner.
Protestants and Anglicans: Their sexual activity is average, with 21% having sex with their main partner a couple of times a week while with their adventure partner (13%) they have sex at least once a week.
A Catholic is also more likely to be deceived, as infidelity is less common among atheists/agnostics (26%) and Anglican Protestants (24%).
On the other hand, the vast majority believe that religious teachings do not adequately and realistically reflect their personal experience on issues such as marriage, infidelity and sexuality, even so, that does not mean that they consider that their entire doctrine should be modernized, but that the prohibition on not having sex is analyzed before marriage (51 per cent) and that marriage should be considered a sacred bond (54 per cent).
The fact that religious are the most unfaithful does not mean that they never repent, since the data collected by Ashley Madison indicate that 56% pray daily, although only 16% do so to ask that they be forgiven for being unfaithful and 13% are prayers to improve their sex lives.
“Adultery is the only sin mentioned twice in the Ten Commandments, and 28% of our members truly believe that infidelity is a sinful act. Almost half of those who feel guilty after meeting a partner believe that those feelings stem directly from what their religion teaches. But 89% say that being unfaithful has not influenced their religious devotion,” said the app's executive director.
