Police revealed alarming report of insecurity in Colombia

Authorities report that throughout the country the days that steal the most are Friday and Saturday

Colombia lives the lowest hours in terms of security, so the report revealed by the National Police shows. According to the data in the document, theft increased by 18% compared to 2021.

So far this year, Colombians have reported and reported 72,600 robberies, an average of 800 per day throughout the country, revealed the document presented by Noticias RCN.

Of all these thefts, the document states that 9% are committed on motorcycles.

The media reports that in the Colombian capital motorcycle thefts account for 11%, which shows that it is the city where this type of vehicle is most used to assault citizens. In addition, Bogotá is where the most robberies occur with 37% of the country's total, followed by Medellin with 12%.

The figures revealed that of half of the thefts committed on public roads, two out of ten are made with firearms or sharps, with the aim of intimidating citizens.

The days with the most theft are Fridays and Saturdays, where eight out of ten are on foot, but most of them escape by motorcycle. Authorities have recorded 6,652 motorcycle thefts, that is, about 70 cases per day.

The National Police launched the Holy Week Plan 'Be Passionate about Life', which has 90,000 men and women, 54,600 of whom will be dedicated exclusively to activities related to the tranquility, protection and ease of travel of travelers in this Major Week.

For Major Week, the institution will focus its activities on three special strategies of action to accompany Colombians: 'Be passionate about safety', 'Be passionate about responsibility' and 'Be passionate about nature'.

“The safety of citizens in streets, neighborhoods, places of religious tradition or rest, such as beaches, rivers, spas and resorts, is a priority for the National Police,” the institution said in a statement.

Bogotá, Popayán, Cali, Medellín, Cartagena, Barranquilla, Santa Marta, Mompox and the municipalities of Antioquia, Boyacá, Valle, among others, have special security plans and support for residents, parishioners and tourists to prevent the commission of crimes such as theft.

A total of 11,000 men and women will serve as police in 3,061 churches and religious temples, while 3,300 will be stationed in 569 tourist sites throughout the country.

The overall component of the police component for Easter also includes: 29,000 police officers for surveillance, 5,900 from the Department of Traffic and Transport, 2,500 for Tourism and Environment (Directorate of Protection and Special Services), 600 from the Directorate of Anti-Narcotics, 300 from the Police Aviation Area, 1,500 Carabinieri, 3,200 from the Intelligence Department, 600 from the Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Extortion Directorate, 700 from the Tax and Customs Police, 1,600 from the Criminal Investigation Directorate and INTERPOL and 7,500 from the National Directorate of Schools, among others.

The Institution currently has 31 helicopters, 13 planes and 35 drones in order to support the tasks of control and surveillance from the air.
