The ferry that will take tourists and President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to the Marías Islands is now ready for the opening of the new tourist site. So it can be a good option to visit during the Easter holidays.
Just last April 6, the president announced that he will make a supervisory tour to the port of San Blas, in Nayarit. It is from that point that tourists will be able to leave to reach the Marías Islands, where López Obrador will carry out supervisory work on Saturday, April 9.
He explained that once on the island, he will spend the night on the spot to finally carry out a supervision on Saturday, April 9, just one day before the citizen consultation on Mandate Revocation.
Visitors will be able to visit the museum of the former penitentiary center where they can enjoy the activities proposed in the Islas Marías Biosphere Reserve project.
Instead you can visit the rehabilitated port of San Balleto, where there is a temple, Juarez Park, the Mandela Mural, a pier, boardwalk, the Muros de Agua Auditorium, and the museum.
Thus, travelers will be able to enjoy the archipelago that was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005 and which housed criminals for 114 years.
From April 8, the tourist trips between San Blas (Nayarit), Mazatlan (Sinaloa) and the Marías Islands (Nayarit), planned as part of the ecotourism project in the area, will begin.
The prison operated for 114 years, the island was a place of detention for the most dangerous criminals in Mexico, but also for political prisoners, as is the case with José Revueltas.
It had previously been planned that the resort would be available to the public from next July, as transport issues such as the number of ships and the expansion of departure and arrival stations had to be addressed.
Miguel Torruco, Secretary of Tourism, said that the “Center for Environmental and Cultural Education Muros de Agua-José Revueltas” will only be for visitors in the modality of hikers, that is, there is no accommodation service or possibility of camping on site.
The Secretary of Tourism explained at the time that activities include visits to the Site Museum, where tourists will learn about the history of the prison, how the prisoners lived, as well as the biographies of the prisoners who were famous.
You can also go hiking, from Balleto to the monumental Christ, ride a bicycle and enjoy the view from the Mirador del Centro Cultural.
Tourists can also enjoy products from the typical market as well as the handicraft shop of the region.
It should be noted that in view of this approach, Jesús Salvador De Olaguibel Domínguez, a member of the navy, was elected as governor of the island, so he is responsible for monitoring what happens in the place and ensuring safety.
At the same time, there is a proposal to create a search and rescue station to safeguard visitors.
