The Locke family will say goodbye this 2022. The third season of Locke & Key will be the last thing we see of these characters. This is not a cancellation: the Netflix title was always designed to be divided into three parts. From the beginning, for showrunners Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill this amount was perfect to tell the plot centered on the Lockes and put a definitive point to their adventures in an ending that will leave the audience satisfied.
“Once we started working on the series, we felt that three seasons was the ideal length to bring the story of the Locke family and their adventures in the Casa Llave to a satisfactory conclusion,” they said in a statement. “As storytellers, we are grateful that we had the opportunity to tell our version of the incredible story of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez [creators of the graphic novel on which the series is based] exactly as we wanted. However, we keep the magic keys for our personal use,” they added with a joke regarding the fictional universe that will be closed.
The supernatural coming-of-age drama debuted on the platform in early 2020 and two years later the latest episodes will be released. At the moment the release date has not been confirmed, but it is clear that it will be sometime in 2022. Recently, the first official images of what will be seen very soon were revealed. What will happen to the protagonists on the verge of closing this chapter?
Locke & Key is an adaptation of a series of comics
After the murder of their father, three brothers move to a house full of keys: this is how the story begins. The house is bigger than they thought and has a disturbing air, as in the creation of Hill (son of Stephen King) and Rodriguez for IDW Entertainment. The Locke family also discovers that there is magic inside the Casa Llave. Meanwhile, in Matheson, a terrible and extremely dangerous threat is approaching, with its own plans for what to do with these keys.
Fantastic fiction deals with personal self-discovery, love, loss, family ties, and much more. Locke & Key was adapted for television by Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill. Emilia Jones (now known worldwide for CODA, the winner of the Oscar for Best Film) Darby Stanchfield, Connor Jessup, Jackson Robert Scott, Brendan Hines, Sherri Saum, Kevin Durand and Coby Bird will resume their characters in the sequel.
In March 2020, it was confirmed that there would be a renewal for the series and that same December it was revealed that there would also be a third installment. The two seasons were filmed together in Toronto, and the most recent one was released in October last year. The final eight episodes are currently in post-production and are expected to be released by Netflix in the coming months.
