Kenia López Rabadán, vice-coordinator of the National Action Party (PAN) bench in the Senate of the Republic, responded to the criticism that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) launched against detractors of the Mayan Train.
This, after an interview with the official was exhibited by the Tabasqueño - as part of the Who is who of lies - who referred her as a liar for stating that construction “will affect the turquoise blue” of the characteristic south sea.
“Of course it doesn't change turquoise blue. Scientifically, what is the rationale? Nothing,” said AMLO laughingly on April 6.
That is why, through a Twitter video, the blue and white militant insisted that the Megaproject “will cause a change in the color of the sea” and will also cause damage to the flora and fauna of the region: “Sir, López Obrador, you are wrong”.
The Mayan Train is one of the flagship projects of the current Government, which aims to develop the economy and tourism in the southeast of the country, between the states of Tabasco, Chiapas, Campeche, Yucatan and Quintana Roo.
Despite demonstrations against construction, the Chief Executive, and his administration in general, has denied that it impacts the environment as it is activists, celebrities, experts and politicians have pointed out; this, with greater emphasis on Section 5.
However, Rabadan contradicted this position and warned that the natural wealth of the entities will be at risk because of López Obrador's “obsession” with “building on the areas of underwater caves”.
Hence, he again spoke out against the works of this route by, he said, lacking environmental permits for the protection of biodiversity, as well as the mitigation of the possible impacts caused to it.
It should be recalled that the construction of Section 5 is divided into the North and South sectors: the first, by the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena), will have an extension of 49.8 km with which plans to move from Cancun to Playa del Carmen
Meanwhile, the second is under the direction of Grupo México and the Spanish company Acciona. It will go from Playa del Carmen to Tulum and will be 60.3 km long.
The controversy with this particular route intensified after the announcement of the change in the route: the first plans envisaged that the route would run along a high stretch, but, given the disagreement of the hoteliers, it was decided to build it at ground level.
This change involved the intrusion of seven kilometers into the jungle zone parallel to the federal roads; a factor for which several experts exposed and criticized the lack of an environmental impact study for the respective works.
In addition to this, various non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have spoken out against it, since, they say, in the area where it is planned to build such a plot there are caves and cenotes that will be affected by the passage of the Train.
