Mi Tío is the new Prime Video bet starring José Eduardo Derbez - Andy -, Ariadne Díaz - Sam - and Santiago Beltrán - Tadeo - and is based on the BBC series Uncle, written by Oliver Refson and Lilah Vandenburgh, with an adaptation and direction by Javier Hills. After his recent success on the streaming platform, Infobae Mexico spoke with Jorge Aranda - Bruno or also called Burrito - about the black comedy that is conquering Mexican audiences.

The actor and singer who, with more than 12 years of career in the artistic field, has already participated in different projects such as Narcos Mexico, Alma de Angel and Paramédicos, returns to acting with this streaming series where we can see him playing a character with a peculiar personality and different nuances that will make the public identify themselves while they will not stop laughing; about the project this commented:

It's a black comedy series, it's a really nice comedy that isn't for children, although it might seem that it's for children because it's like 15 and up, because it's a story that deals with somewhat sensitive topics through that dark humor, such as depression, drugs, mistakes and the defects of any human being on a daily basis and as through a family relationship, in this case the uncle and nephew, because many things can be healed”, he said.

About Bruno, his character in the series, the singer also mentioned that although he has a very different personality than Eugenio Derbez's son, they will be an unmissable team that will help Burrito live things he would never have done for his own pleasure:

“All the characters that revolve around this universe of Andy, who is the character of José Eduardo, are circumstantial; I have to play a little with Bruno, give him life, who due to precisely circumstances of life are in activities of my daughter, who plays Isabela Tena, and the character of the nephew, who is Tadeo, they play football together and there we meet and they begin to develop various activities, different circumstances, adventures and others that surely my character would not have lived if I didn't know Andy -Derbez- since we are completely different personalities,” he added.

On how risky it can be to carry out a black humor project in a time when jokes about certain topics have already been reconsidered by comedians because society has explored new ways of seeing what was previously normalized as “harmless” and which now has a much deeper connotation, Jorge Aranda commented:

Issues should be approached with the naturalness with which things should be dealt with. It seems to me that an important part of the new narratives, which is a bit what is being tried to change and that I am very grateful as an actor that in the industry they dare to tell this kind of thing, is that it is everyday life: suicide, depression, drugs, heartbreak”.

He went on to talk: “All these problems are things we deal with every day, why shouldn't they come naturally in narratives and stories? However, it can take a turn because it is not the life of a human being one hundred percent white or one hundred percent black, everything can have humor even if you are living the most hopeless situation you can imagine.”

Aranda added that working with José Eduardo Derbez has been a very pleasant experience because everyone fell in love with the project and the characters since they read the script and since the cast was not revealed until the recordings, it favored group chemistry.
