How to avoid becoming a victim of concert ticket resale fraud

After living a long time in the pandemic, away from live shows and the arts such as music, museums, plays, even cinema and much more, the activities gradually returned to daily life, being sheltered with great encouragement by the fans.

Such is the case of the concerts that, for Mexico, have recently received an exorbitant number of national and international artists of great renown, capable of attracting masses of fans in venues of up to more than 10,000 people.

This, however, has not been of great fun for everyone, since it also reactivated an activity known as the resale of accesses. Numerous cases have appeared on social networks of people who, in search of their precious tickets, were scammed by people engaged in this activity, or by sellers on web applications that promote it.

Therefore, personnel from the Cybernetic Police Unit, of the Ministry of Citizen Security (SSC) of Mexico City, announced a monitoring and detection of cybercriminal activities in which apocryphal tickets are offered for mass events, mainly through social networks.

The above, after they received various notices, including reports in which fans sought access to tickets through such methods, most with promises of, for example, low costs.

However, at the time of having them in their hands and trying to access the concert, sporting or cultural event in high demand at all costs, they were unable to do so because it was fake tickets, an activity that they labeled as Phishing.

For this reason, the SSC Cyber Police Unit issued the following recommendations to citizens who wish to purchase tickets through Internet pages:

° Verify the authentication of the sites or pages on which you browse.

° Observe that the pages are not misspelled and that the graphic images are of good quality.

° Check the authenticity of a page and take into account that the URL starts with https:, the “S” at the end means that it is a site with encrypted communication or “a secure site”.

° There is no rule that applies to whether a site is totally safe from the security certificate, but having it is a plus point for it.

° If there are doubts about the veracity of a website, take a screenshot or copy the URL to send it to the Cyber Police, whose staff will help you identify fraudulent sites.

° Consult the terms and conditions of the platforms or applications, before putting your assets, personal and banking data at risk.

° Check with online sales platforms to find out if they have a legal association with such applications

° Install an antivirus on all devices that are used to surf the web, this to prevent them from being vulnerable to information theft.

° Check the download statistics and reviews about the applications you want to install.

° Review the permissions that providers request to access personal information and other functions on mobile devices.

If the person accessed one of these tickets on resale, and it was part of the Phishing, then he can go to the appropriate authorities, in this case the Public Ministry, where you must file a complaint about it.
