Garments made of wool are some of the most delicate that can be found in anyone's closet, because they are difficult to clean if they get stained with something and require special care when washing because they can easily be damaged if we don't know how to do it properly.
That's why many people who don't know how to wash them at home resort to sending these clothes to the laundry room so that more expert hands on the subject can take care of. However, even in these places that are supposed to have trained personnel, mistakes occur and we may end up receiving our beloved garment much smaller than we delivered it or with the battered material.
If you are one of those who feel more like taking care of the cleaning of your delicate items by yourself, in the following note we will tell you some tricks that exist to wash your coats and woolen garments at home and that they look perfect either by hand washing or using the washing machine.
TRICKS FOR WASHING WOOLEN GARMENTS
Before you start, the first thing you should do is check what material the coat or garment you want to wash is made of. Most garments have a label with the specifications of the materials and also with recommendations to follow for their cleaning.
HAND WASH
We're going to need
-Cold water
-Special detergent for wool
-2 large towels
-1 clothes brush
-1 large container
Procedure
If you have already decided to wash your coat or woolen garment by hand, the first thing you will do is fill a large container with cold water. It is important that the water is cold or very warm, since hot water shrinks the garments of this material. Now, follow these steps:
1. Once the container is filled with cold water, we will pour some of the special detergent for washing wool. It is important that you only use the amount of detergent indicated on the label.
2. Now, we submerge the coat or garment several times for a few seconds so that the soapy water penetrates the entire garment well.
3. We let it soak for 5 minutes and then rinse the garment with plenty of cold water several times until the detergent is completely removed.
4. To wring out the garment use both hands and squeeze until you get as much water as possible.
5. Once it is well wrung out, we roll it up on the large towel taking care that it does not wrinkle and is as smooth as possible, since garments made with this fabric tend to be marked quite easily.
6. When the towel has absorbed as much water as possible, we spread the garment on a flat surface on top of another dry towel to air dry.
7. To finish, we will turn the garment over every 30 minutes so that it dries well on both sides. It is important that we make sure that there are no marks or wrinkles left on the clothes.
IN WASHING MACHINE
If you want to use the washing machine to clean your coat or garment, the first thing you should do is make sure that your washing machine has a specific program for washing wool or delicate items, which not all have it. In addition, as we mentioned before, it is important that this washing session be with cold water to prevent the garment from shrinking at the end of the cycle.
Procedure
1. The first thing you need to do is make sure to button all the buttons and close all the zippers of the coat or garment before putting it in the washing machine. This way you can prevent any of these pieces from catching on the device and ending up damaging the garment.
2. Now you just have to add the special wool soap in the detergent compartment and program your washing machine as you normally do by selecting cold water and the program for washing wool or delicate fabrics.
* Another way to wash woolen garments in the washing machine is to put them inside a special machine wash bag, this will prevent them from being damaged. Then follow the usual steps to use this artifact.
