A few weeks ago, critic Santiago García made this report on the production.

HBO has good news for Lakers fans: time to win: the production will have a second season that “you can enjoy soon,” he said in a press release.

Based on the book “Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s” by Jeff Pearlman, the series chronicles the professional and personal lives of the Lakers in the 1980s, one of the sport's most revered and dominant dynasties, a team that defined an era, both on and off the court. In itself, “a look at the glitz and glamour of Los Angeles in that decade.”

The ten-episode first season will conclude on Sunday, May 8 on HBO Max and HBO.

Time to win is also a nostalgic journey (critical and harsh, but at last cherishable) into that past that seems very distant today. Many activities that today became cultural or sports institutions in the world had somewhat dirty beginnings, somewhat “mafioso”, full of characters and customs that today would be reprehensible, at least publicly. In this regard, the series does not ignore it, but it is not organized from a revisionist perspective either.

In that sense Lakers: time to win marks the beginning of a cultural change that goes beyond basketball and extends to many other areas and not just sports. It is the beginning of the culture of show, celebrity, big show and multi-million dollar contracts. Inside things may still be just as weird, dirty and even corrupt; but on the outside everything shines with the sparkle of entertainment for the whole family.

The cast of the first season includes John C. Reilly, Quincy Isaiah, Jason Clarke, Adrien Brody, Gaby Hoffmann, Tracy Letts, Jason Segel, Julianne Nicholson, Hadley Robinson, DeVaughn Nixon, Solomon Hughes, Tamera Tomakili, Brett Cullen, Stephen Adly Guirgis, Spencer Garrett, Ramos, Molly Gordon, Joey Brooks, In front of Souza, Jimel Atkins, Austin Aaron, Jon Young with Rob Morgan and Sally Field.

Part of the production and creative team for the first season includes Adam McKay (for Hyperobject Industries) as director of the pilot and executive producer, Max Borenstein as showrunner, executive producer, screenwriter, co-creator, Kevin Messick (for Hyperobject Industries) as executive producer, Jim Hecht as executive producer, screenwriter and co-creator, Rodney Barnes as executive producer and screenwriter, and Jason Shuman and Scott Stephens as executive producers.
