Aracely Ordaz, better known as Gomita, became a trend on social media since she announced that she had had a new surgery. Through a series of videos on her Instagram and TikTok accounts, the influencer showed the changes in her figure by comparing how she looked before and after.
Gomita revealed that her new image is due to a gastric bypass, an operation that allowed her to lose 13 kilos in a two by three. This is an intervention that involves considerably reducing the size of the stomach in order to reduce the proportion of the body.
However, some of his followers complained that this is not the first time that such an intervention has been performed, since he has confessed that he has 7 in total, among which liposuction that was done at the age of 18, for this reason, users' concerns about the famous one began, since many pointed it out to put their health at risk.
In addition, in a live feed on her instagram account, she clarified that she had to travel to Venezuela because in Mexico she was told that she must weigh at least 100 kilos to be considered as a candidate, however, she also reported that the doctor who treated her told her that the intervention was not a problem.
For all of the above, bariatric doctors shared with Infobae México information regarding the process of bypass surgery, its advantages and disadvantages.
Dr. José Castañeda Cruz, who for two decades has been engaged in performing all kinds of weight-loss surgeries, explained that bypass is one of the most common and most requested techniques.
“This is a restrictive intervention, which means that the capacity of the stomach is reduced so that patients eat less, this in order to provide quality of life to people who are overweight and obese, reducing their weight and controlling the diseases that bad habits can cause them,” said the expert to this portal.
For his part, specialist Ricardo Villa added that it is a “malabsorptive surgery, that is, the absorption of food is limited, generating, as the name says in English, a free passage in relation to the intestine, since the normal path that the food bolus should have is not carried out”.
The bariatrician Castañeda explained that this is an operation in which “the digestive cycle is altered so that the intestine absorbs less fats and sugars, thus reducing the risk of gaining weight, which provides multiple benefits to people suffering from diabetes or hypertension.”
It should be noted that the former clown of the Sabadazo program shared that before performing the bypass she weighed 80 kilos, an issue that is not exactly considered overweight, since both experts agreed that in order for a patient to be considered as a candidate for the operation “it is necessary to rely on the mass index body (BMI), a formula in which weight is divided by size squared, if the BMI is above 31 it is already considered overweight and when they are over 35 it is known as morbid obesity,” explained José Castañeda.
In addition, Villa indicated that it is important to consider that if the BMI is not suitable for the procedure, the intervention should not be performed because “bariatric surgery is performed for a functional purpose for the patient, to improve their quality of life, not for something aesthetic because it can cause malnutrition.”
It is elementary to emphasize this because Gomita argued in her broadcast that she did it to look better and that it does not cause her any conflict to know that her current appearance is the result of the scalpel, she also said that she performed the bypass because she wants to weigh 55 kilos, since “television increases the weight of people twice”.
In the same way, she said that she has an “adapted bypass, that is, it has a certain limit” and stressed that she is under follow-up with a specific diet and that she is taking vitamins. She also shared that from a young age she has problems with her weight and that this situation led her to consume things that only caused different complications such as gastritis and colitis.
Surgeon Castañeda Cruz explained that the most convenient thing for patients who do not reach the minimum BMI is to perform a gastric sleeve, although the influencer indicated that her doctor told her that the best thing for her was bypass.
On the other hand, Villa added that one of the disadvantages of performing the operation is that “there may be bleeding, some leak of the suture, some ulcer or the dumping syndrome, associated with gastric acceleration, this occurs in patients who are not well chosen, in someone who is not diabetic it can generate excess glucose”.
Both stressed that it is necessary for this type of work to be done by specialized bariatricians, since part of the treatment is psychological and psychiatric support (if required), as well as the support of a nutritionist and an internist.
Among the advantages of this surgery is the “lowering of blood pressure, improvement in diabetes, cardiovascular conditions, blood supply, prevents complications in pregnancy and wear and tear of joints, and also prevents the formation of cancer. It is a highly recommended surgery for patients who have not been able to have results with diets or medications,” said Ricardo Villa.
José Castañeda said that the objective of the surgery is “to provide better living conditions for people who suffer from complications due to obesity, so that they can live better, as long as they follow a proper diet and exercise. I also believe that it is essential for parents to influence their children to eat healthily, so that obesity can be avoided.”
Finally, we need to carry out all kinds of interventions by specialists in order not to harm our health. Aracely Ordaz did not mention anything about psychological support, but, according to doctors, this support is vital for self-esteem and the process of the beneficiary.
