The destruction of the roller coaster of La Feria de Chapultepec begins

Two and a half years after the Chapultepec Fair was closed in Mexico City, the dismantling of its iconic “Roller Coaster”, which during the 1960s and 70s became the largest and fastest in the world.

And the fact is that the YouTube channel CoasterWorldMX published a video showing the works to disassemble the mega-structure made mostly of wood and iron. In the material lasting just over four minutes, you can see how several men with the help of machinery, such as saws and cranes, remove the tracks from both the peaks and the valleys.

It is worth mentioning that the video was published last Monday, April 04 and provoked dozens of reactions, especially nostalgia for being a mechanical game that excited several generations. However, others pointed out that it was already a fairly damaged structure that could put visitors at risk.

“Everyone who had the opportunity to climb leaves us with a deep feeling of sadness and melancholy, even more so when we are Chilangos”, “He was a reference for Chapultepec, but it was already very bad. She was uncomfortable to the point of being responsible for injuries due to her high vibrations. Yes, an icon is leaving but you also have to learn to close cycles”, “It was practically a heritage, and citizens had to be taken into account so that it remained or will retire”, reads on YouTube.

The mega structure was built by International Amusement Devices, Inc., an American company founded in 1929. The designer of the roller coaster was Aurel Vaszin and Edward Leis. It should be noted that the structure of the roller coaster of the Chapultepec Fair is mostly built of wood, and to date retains its original design. It is estimated that there are only about 20 such roller coasters worldwide.

It should be noted that, in its time, it became the largest and fastest roller coaster with a wooden structure in the world. Construction was a process that took approximately nine months, and everything needed for the foundations and timber were brought from the United States. The territory on which the roller coaster was installed was not entirely flat, so it had to be leveled.
