From this Sunday, April 10 to Sunday, April 17, Colombia will commemorate Holy Week, one of the holiday seasons where thousands of Colombians are expected to travel inside and outside the country. Therefore, here are some recommendations for you to travel safely and peacefully, whether you are travelling by plane or on the road.

According to Aeronáutica Civil (Aerocivil), during the Major Week it is estimated that around 1,437,000 passengers will be transported at all airports in Colombia. With that figure in mind, the aviation agency and some airlines such as Avianca, recommended that travelers take into account the following points to avoid setbacks:

1. Check with the authorities in your destination country for entry requirements. Please have your vaccination card and/or PCR test on hand when entering Colombia if required.

2. Stay in constant contact with your airline through the applications and communication channels provided for this purpose, in order to anticipate changes in itineraries.

3. Check in early, as well as fill out the Check-Mig form in advance before leaving or entering Colombia.

4. Please arrive at the airport two hours in advance for domestic flights and three hours in advance for international flights, as there may be unforeseen events such as weather conditions or air traffic congestion.

5. Take into account the dimensions of your baggage, so that you avoid inconvenience when boarding your flight.

6. For your safety and that of other passengers, carry cell phones, laptops, tablets, cameras, portable external chargers (Power Banks) and any other object that contains lithium batteries in your hand baggage.

7. Use Bio Mig's automatic machines to carry out your migration processes in just 20 seconds. In the event that you are not registered, you may request an Migration officer to register on the device for future travel.

Last but not least, the director of Aerocivil, Jair Orlando Fajardo, reminded passengers that they must comply with all biosecurity measures: “carry your vaccination card, wear your mask and keep the distance of one meter.”

For people who will travel through Colombia on the road, Motor magazine published five important recommendations that travelers should consider before traveling:

1. Specify your travel route: Before you leave for your destination, it is important that you know the route you will be travelling on, if there are any new routes or if they have landslide alerts, the number of tolls you must pay and what detours you might take in the event of a setback.

2. Check the condition of your vehicle: check tires (including spare tires), the operation of the engine cooling system, lights, mirrors, brakes, seat belts, and other items that, if not run properly, could endanger the life of the driver and passengers.

3. Road kit: do not forget that in order to travel overland in the country it is mandatory to carry this set of tools that must work properly.

4. Do not exceed driving time: it is not only important that you rest well before you get behind the wheel, but also that you do not drive for more than 8 or 10 hours. For this reason, Motor magazine recommended that you travel with a co-pilot.

Finally, the magazine specialized in the automotive sector reminded Colombians that they should not only drive with caution and comply with traffic regulations, but also avoid stimuli that affect their nervous system such as alcohol, hallucinogenic substances, high levels of caffeine, music at high levels, or other elements that could cause you accidents.
