CDMX: after heat wave, rains are expected from April 7 to 10 in some areas of the capital

Following the activation of yellow and orange alerts, in the coming days there will be a drop in temperature and an increase in cloudiness

The Secretariat for Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection (SGIRPC) of Mexico City (CDMX) reported that rains are expected in some regions of the capital between April 7 and 10. This is after the heat wave that triggered the activation of yellow and orange alerts due to the high temperatures recorded in the capital during the last week.

Through its official channels, the local agency indicated that the rains could be accompanied by electrical activity and hailstones. He also indicated that, as of Friday, April 8, a drop in temperature is expected, which could range between 19 and 20 degrees Celsius in the upper parts of the capital; while maximum temperatures could be between 23 and 24 degrees Celsius.

As on other occasions, Civil Protection asked citizens to contact 911 in case they detected a clogged drain, as well as to carry umbrellas or raincoat and to remain attentive to the information sent through the official channels of the SGIRPC.

For its part, during the night of this Wednesday, April 6, a maximum temperature of 26 degrees Celsius was reported and it was specified that there will be a decrease in the maximum temperature for April 7, due to the fact that in the next few hours the cloudiness will increase and the probability of rain in the afternoon.

As for the maximum temperatures recorded by the networks of the SGIRPC, the Ministry of the Environment (Sedema), the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the National Water Commission (Conagua), the hottest area of the capital was reported in the Agrícola Oriental colony, where it reached a temperature of 29 .8 degrees Celsius.

The other hottest seasons were: Gustavo A. Madero (29.4°C), Merced (29.3°C), Tulyehualco (29.3°C), Legaria (29.1°C), Benito Juarez (28.7°C), Tlahuac (28.6°C), Miguel Hidalgo (28.5°C), General Hospital of Mexico (28.4°C), Environmental Analysis (28.2°C) °C), Cuautepec (28.2°C), UAM Iztapalapa (28.1°C), Benito Juarez (27. 9°C), Milpa Alta (27.6°C), UAM Xochimilco (27.3°C), Pedregal (27.1°C), Santa Fe (27°C) and Topilejo (23.7°C).

In addition to the special rain warning, the SGIRPC has reported that, in the last week, extremely high rates of ultraviolet radiation have been reported in the capital of Mexico, so it gave the following recommendations to citizens:

- Wear sunglasses, caps and/or hats

- Use sunscreen with a minimum sun protection factor of 30

- Staying hydrated

- Do not be exposed to the sun for long periods

- Avoid eating on public roads, as food breaks down quickly

It should be recalled that, on 2 April, in Mexico City, 20 forest fires were reported in different mayors in the south of the capital, including Xochimilco, Tlalpan, Milpa Alta and La Magdalena Contreras, a situation that reported poor air quality.

Last Wednesday, March 30, the Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis (CAme) activated phase 1 of atmospheric environmental contingency due to ozone concentration in the Area Metropolitana del Valle de México (ZMVM), due to high levels of pollution.

Finally, it should be noted that in Mexico City there are 13 detection towers and four Community Innovation and Integration Centers (CIIC), which make up a group of 140 brigades that work 365 days a year for the prevention and detection of forest fires.
