The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has already started working towards the future of its national team, after the formal announcement made by Tite during a interview with the Sportv channel at the end of February in which he assured that he will leave the leadership of the squad after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
That is why, according to the newspaper Marca, with the arrival of Ednaldo Rodrigues as president of the CBF, the idea of hiring the Spanish coach of Manchester City, Pep Guardiola, began to take more shape, who a little less than a year ago acknowledged that his next goal is to lead a national team.
As detailed by the media in question, and which was replicated by Brazilian media such as UOL and Globo, the South American leadership already had contacts with Pere Guardiola, brother and representative of the former FC Barcelona coach.
Apparently, the project would be so advanced that some contract conditions could even be known, such as that it would be an offer for four years (Until the 2026 World Cup) and with a salary of around 12 million euros, a figure less than the 20 million currently being paid in Manchester City in the Premier League.
“In CBF, there is great confidence that the operation can be completed,” Marca said. It should be noted that Guardiola renewed his contract with the British entity last November 2020 until June 2023. It will then be necessary to see if the prestigious coach would choose to leave the club in the middle of the competition (since the world cup ends in December 2022) or if Brazil would wait for him until he fulfills the extension of the bond.
“A selection, yes. If the possibility is given, a selection is the next step. I have to take a break after seven years. I have to stop to see what we have done, learn from other coaches and maybe take that path. I would like to train in a Euro, an America's Cup or a World Cup,” Pep Guardiola revealed in August 2021 during an event in Sao Paulo.
At that time, the Catalan coach stated that he did not have a specific selection in mind, although he praised the Brazilian team: “What do I think of Tite's Brazil? It's a fantastic team. Some are my players, others are rivals and I know them. Brazil is always a candidate, favorite. It always was and always will be. It is part of the essence, of culture.”
This is not the first time that CBF would try to hire a foreign technician. In May 2021, the Brazilians' interest in hiring Xavi Hernández, who was still a coach at Al Sadd in Qatar, was confirmed from Spain.
At that time, the idea was that he would join the coaching staff of Tite during the World Cup and that at the end of the World Cup event he would take the reins of the Canarinha.
“It is true that I was offered to be with Brazil. First I was going to be an assistant to Tite and after the World Cup, I was going to grab the national team, but my idea was to come to Barça”, acknowledged the former midfielder culé himself during his official presentation as coach of Barcelona.
