Until June 2, Colombian writers and writers will be able to participate in the first edition of the María Mercedes Carranza National Poetry Prize, which seeks to commemorate the legacy of the Bogotá poet and reward unpublished works by Colombian authors.
The prize is part of the incentives portfolio for 2022 of the Instituto Distrital de las Artes (Idartes), and will be awarded to the winner, who will be known on November 4, $32,000,000 pesos, in addition to the co-edition, publication and dissemination of his work through the publishers Luna Libros and Cardumen.
The editors Catalina Gónzalez and Alejandra Argota clarify that, “the catalogue and the criteria of the two publishers will form an ideal alliance to recognize the diversity and quality of Colombian poetry”.
Adriana Martínez-Villalba, Literature Manager at Idartes, points out that “with this award we seek, in addition to paying homage to the life and work of María Mercedes Carranza, to open a space for the publication of a work of high literary quality in two of the most outstanding independent publishing labels of poetry at the level national: Luna Libros and Shoal Books”.
The prize works under anonymous mode, the work must be unpublished, that is, it must not have been published in any digital or printed media and have not received prior recognition.

María Mercedes Carranza was born in Bogotá on May 24, 1945, but lived much of her childhood in Spain. Since childhood she was in constant contact with poetry, since her father, Eduardo Carranza, was also a poet. His first book, Pods and Other Poems, was published in 1972, followed by three other poems: I am afraid (1983), Hola soledad (1987) and The song of the flies (version of events) (1997). He founded the Silva Poetry House, a place dedicated to the preservation and dissemination of poetry in Bogotá.
Entries are also open for the National Narrative Prize Elisa Mújica
Until June 2, 2022, Colombian women will be able to participate in the third edition of the National Narrative Prize Elisa Mújica, which is being carried out by the District Institute of Arts (Idartes) in partnership with Laguna Libros, an independent publisher.
This initiative was born in 2018 as a commemoration of the centenary of the birth of Colombian writer Elisa Mújica, and seeks to ponder the work of a Colombian writer who writes any kind of narratives, whether fiction or non-fiction, in genres such as novel, short story, literary essay, chronicle and testimony, you can also participate with a compilation of texts.
The winner will be announced on November 15 of this year and will receive an economic stimulus of $32,000,000 and the publication of the work in Laguna Libros.
Interested parties must submit a work that must be unpublished, that is, it has not been published in any digital or printed media and not previously received recognition. It should be noted that the prize works under anonymous mode, so participants must not reveal their identity anywhere in the proposal. If they do, they will be disqualified.

In the first version of the prize, the winner was Cristina Bendek, with her novel The Salt Crystals, which has been translated into Portuguese (Editora Moinhos, 2021), Danish (Northern Lights, 2020) and English (Charco Press, 2022). It was also published in Costa Rica (Encino Ediciones, 2020).
In the 2020 edition, the winner was Laura Ortiz Gómez, with her storybook Sofoco, which has also been published in Spain (Barret, 2021), Argentina (Concreto, 2021), Chile (Laurel, 2022) and Italy (Gran Via, 2022).
