On the morning of April 7, 2022, Mexico's constitutional president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), said he agreed to the rally held on Wednesday at the Monument to the Revolution in favor of the Electric Reform, in which Mexico City's head of government, Claudia Sheinbaum, participated.
The president commented at the morning conference held at the National Palace.
In addition, he said that in the end, what was being fought with this reform was the price of electricity: “In the end what is in question: the price of electricity, to put it colloquially; that receipts of 20, 30 thousand pesos per month do not arrive at homes, as is happening in Spain, where private companies dominate”, he said.
On April 6, three days after the popular consultation on the Revocation of Mandate, thousands of supporters of the Movimiento de Regeneración Nacional (Morena) party, between civilians and civil servants, gathered at the Monument to the Revolution of Mexico City, with the aim of expressing their support for the Electric Reform proposed by the president of the Mexican Republic.
Among the personalities who attended the event was the presence of the current head of government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, who during working hours and noting that her participation was as a citizen and public servant, joined the demonstration calling on federal deputies to defend national sovereignty and vote for the reform that will strengthen the Commission Federal Electricity (CFE).
From Sheinbaum's cabinet were Martí Batres, Secretary of Government; José Luis Rodríguez Díaz de León, from Labor; Marina Robles, for Environment; Javier Hidalgo, from Sport, and Rosarua Ruiz, from Education.
The mayors of Iztacalco, Iztapalapa, Venustiano Carranza, Gustavo A. Madero, Milpa Alta and Xochimilco; Armando Quintero; Clara Brugada, Evelyn Parra, Francisco Chíguil, Judith Vanegas and José Carlos Acosta, respectively, also attended the event. Paco Taibo II, head of the Economic Culture Fund, also arrived; Ariadna Montiel, Secretary of Welfare, and Luisa María Alcalde, Secretary of Labor.
The rally caused a stir on the networks because the official took the opportunity to publicly position herself in favor of the revocation of the mandate and show her support for López Obrador: “And from here we tell him that he will not be defeated by slander because the people accompany him. The president is not alone,” he prayed before the crowd.
The critics were joined by personalities such as former actress Laisha Wilkins, Senator for the National Action Party (PAN), Kenya López Rabadán, as well as Solomon Chertorivsky, from the Citizen Movement (MC).
