From 5, 10 or up to 1 peso, a wide variety of coins are sold on an internet platform at exorbitant prices, such is the case of a low-denomination copy that is offered at a high price, due to an alleged coinage error.
According to specialists, a piece with a defect can increase its value. However, it will depend on the copy to which it refers and whether the error to which it refers is true. An example of this is Francisco Primo de Verdad's five-peso coin, of which the Banco de México did announce the damage.
According to specialists, it will be important to know the characteristics of the coins, since they have repeatedly been offered on the internet at huge prices and are not worth them. In this case, the copy we refer to is displayed at a cost of almost 53,000 pesos for a website.
What is the currency?
It is a piece with a denomination of 1 peso that belongs to family B, which according to the Banxico, those of this group have different characteristics from the coins of family A and are expressed in “new pesos”. Some of them are currently in the process of being withdrawn.
It has a bronze and aluminum composition in its center, as well as a stainless steel perimeter ring.
The so-called “new peso” was put into circulation from January 1993, according to data from the Bank of Mexico.
Where is the alleged error and what is its cost?
The piece is presumed at a price of up to 52 thousand 999 pesos, according to a person who shared it on the Mercado Libre site.
The owner of the coin shared that the alleged damage is found at the date (1992). Besides that he mentioned that it is a “scarce and rare” currency.
What are the characteristics of the piece?
The specimen has a diameter of 21.0 mm. It has on its obverse the typical National Shield of the eagle devouring a snake and the phrase “United Mexican States”.
While on its reverse side the number “1″ is displayed in the center of the piece, as well as the symbol “N$”, year of issue, symbol of the Mint and a stylization of the ring of the radiance of the Sun Stone.
It must be remembered that collectors search every day for a wide variety of copies, whether they are coins or banknotes. However, some have shared with the media that they do not get copies as expensive as seen on the internet.
One ticket lover even reiterated that some people have offered tickets at extraordinary prices and are often not worth it.
“They are spectacular, they give ridiculous values to banknotes that don't have them. It's one thing to try to sell a ticket for its peculiar serial number, at a price perhaps twice its value, but trying huge prices is ridiculous. Sadly people fall,” he said.
It should be remembered that although the Banco de México has mentioned that coins or banknotes can be sold at the price you prefer, since they are objects owned by it, the ideal thing is to visit a specialist or numismatics store to find out what items they should contain and whether they are worth a lot or not.
