The new episodes of New Amsterdam will be available to watch very soon in the catalog of Star+. The medical drama focuses on the story of Dr. Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold) on his new career path as the new director of New Amsterdam, one of the oldest hospitals in the US. With the aim of turning this place into a much better place for patient care, it initiates a process of reforming and combating the infuriating bureaucracy of the health system.
The fourth season will arrive on April 20, after the weekly broadcast on the US channel NBC began. This is not the end... although the series was officially canceled in March of this year due to poor audience performance, it will culminate its plot in a fifth installment, consisting of 13 episodes that will be released between 2022 and 2023. Currently, the broadcast is paralyzed and will return on the 19th of this month in North America to continue telling much more about the characters.
Realism to Deepen Health and Hospitals in the U.S.
Created by David Schulner and directed by Peter Horton, the title explores drama within a healthcare center through emotional scenarios and dialogues, a formula that worked very well for another successful production of this network such as This is Us. Between 2018 and 2019, it achieved great popularity among viewers, placing it among the most watched on NBC's television grid, and had a similar effect when it was released through Netflix for Latin America.
“As my emotions shift from sadness to pride, I would like to share the World Health Organization's recognition of New Amsterdam, which makes us more proud than any 30-day non-linear award or qualifying curve,” Schulner said to the news of New Amsterdam's cancellation.
The program was highlighted for “incorporating public health problems and approaches that do not usually reach medical or hospital television programs”, as well as the environmental damage caused by hospitals and initiatives to make them self-sustainable without affecting the work of health professionals, added the creator in reference to the letter he received from Christopher Bailey, who arts and health leader. In addition, some episodes reflected the context of the COVID-19 pandemic such as Grey's Anatomy, The Good Doctor and other productions of this song.
With Eggold in the lead, the cast also consisted of Freema Agyeman, Janet Montgomery, Jocko Sims and Tyler Labine. In this new installment, the character of Elizabeth Wilder, a doctor played by the deaf actress Sandra Mae Frank, was added, being one of several stars with disabilities who were called up in the production. The latter has won the accolades for being a detail not very common in television fictions.
The new from New Amsterdam will arrive on April 20 to Star+.
