Club America did not have a good start to the championship in the 2022 Clausura as the shortage of victories led to the removal of their coach Santiago Solari. This is how Fernando Ortiz assumed the interim position of the direction of the Eagles.
Despite the fact that those from Coapa do not usually keep their interim coaches, Ortiz would have the opportunity to stay in office and be the helmsman of the azulcremas for longer. Santiago Baños, sports president of the institution, revealed what it would take to make that happen and ensure the club's direction.
In an interview with TUDN, Baños analyzed the panorama currently facing the Americanist squad, since so far it remains two positions in the reclassification zone. Therefore, the sports president pointed out that if Fernando Ortiz manages to get the club into the playoff or even the league, he would be considering its continuity.
The only thing Fernando would need would be to add more wins to close the regular days of the tournament and thus meet the expectations of Santiago Baños and all the crema blue fans who have seen a poor performance of his club.
America is currently in 14th place in the standings with 13 points. The last victory they won was against Necaxa on Matchday 12 of the tournament with a score of 1-0, that achievement allowed them to be closer and closer to the Guadalajara club and beat them in positions.
Baños said he was aware of the challenge ahead for the last five remaining days for the championship fight, as he explained they could long for the eighth place in the table to ensure their competition in the 2022 Clausura playoff.
“We have been adding the points that lead us to where we intended in the first instance. Approach the twelfth, eleventh and tenth. And well, from now on the idea or the clear objective that we have as a team is to fight for places 12, 11, 10, nine or even eight ″, he said.
