María Fernanda Aristizabal Urrea was the last contestant in the National Beauty Contest to be chosen before the pandemic, in November 2019, as is the tradition of the national beauty pageant. However, her dream of representing Colombia in Miss Universe was cut short with the change of the franchise, which is currently being held by Natalie Ackermann.
The model and social communicator who represented the Quindío department in the national contest, from the beginning dreamed and prepared for the Miss Universe competition, but despite the fact that the franchise owner in Colombia and former Miss Atlántico tried to talk several times with Raymundo Angulo, it was not possible to send 'Mafe' to the contest universal.
“I honestly don't know what happened, honestly there was no more response from them and from the mother company, Miss Universe, they were also waiting for me to make the decision what I was going to do with my franchise... they gave me the time of a month to make the decision and within that month I had no more response from them -the Contest National Beauty-”, expressed Natalie Ackermann in the program 'You say about me'.
Although her preparation to become Miss Colombia was focused on reaching Miss Universe, María Fernanda Aristizábal failed to fulfill the dream of representing Colombia in the universal contest at the time of her reign, so her reign was focused on fulfilling personal goals and because of the pandemic she decided start his entrepreneurship, continue his English classes and earned a professional degree in Social Communication and Journalism.
Rumors of a possible appointment of the quindiana as the new Miss Universe Colombia have been gaining strength in recent weeks, since the press conference was announced for Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at the Dann Carlton Hotel in Medellin, as the former Miss Colombia has her residence in the capital of Antioquia.
The event was attended by the directors of Miss Universe Colombia, headed by its president Natalie Ackermann, the outgoing queen Valeria Ayos, who managed to be part of the top 5 in the last edition of the universal beauty pageant.
The decision was made after studying all the legal processes that confirmed that María Fernanda Aristizabal had no legal link that tied her to the National Beauty Contest after having handed over her crown in November 2021 in Cartagena to the representative for Bolivar, Valentina Espinoza Guzmán.
Natalie Ackermann, president of the franchise in the country, made this decision in order to prepare it for at least this year and the 25-year-old Quindiana, a social communicator and model, immediately accepted. In addition, the director announced that in the coming days there will be a ceremony for Valeria Ayos to officially impose her band and crown on María Fernanda Aristizábal.
Here are the words of the new Miss Universe Colombia:
“I want to tell you with great pride that I am happy to have a band on my chest again called Colombia, I never felt it far from me, Colombia has always been in my heart and for me it has been a very enriching process... today I am very grateful first to the Miss Universe Colombia organization for allowing me to fulfill this dream, for allow me to live this process and this joy of being able to shout Colombia before the world because that makes me happy,” María Fernanda Aristizábal said in her gratitude speech.
