This Wednesday, April 6, will become a new day of protests in Bogotá by motorcyclists in the Colombian capital. When no agreement was reached with the mayor, Claudia López, regarding the ban on the barbecue, it was reported that new demonstrations will be held today starting at noon. What the local administration proposes is to restrict the transport of two people in a single vehicle on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays; between 7:00 at night and 4:00 in the morning, in order to address the insecurity in the city.
Faced with the announcement of new mobilizations in Bogotá, given the non-conformity with what López raised, the Director General of the Police, General Jorge Luis Vargas, assured that motorcyclists from more than 30 guilds who intend to raise their voices in the streets of the city will be accompanied. According to the authorities, the march will be followed closely to avoid situations that disturb public order.
“Yesterday, at 9:00 p.m. in Bogotá, on the instructions of President Duque, we told the Director of Public Security, General Herman Bustamante, that all specialties will be available specifically with Esmad, in order to have all the police capacities available, should there be any alteration to the coexistence in Bogotá”, commented the senior official.
The meeting points agreed for the protest are: the Virgilio Barco Public Library; 63rd Street with Carrera 68; the South Highway with Villavicencio, and the El Campin Stadium. The authorities, in turn, alert citizens to be aware of what may happen around El Dorado International Airport; Plaza de Bolivar; the “Y” Yomasa; the entry and exit to Soacha; the entry and exit to La Calera; the Cota-Suba road; the Santa Librada and Usme neighborhood.
Likewise, it is recommended to have your eyes on the north of Bogotá, specifically, the Rosales neighborhood, La Cabrera, El Nogal, Chicó and Unicentro.
There are also warnings of the presence of motorcyclists in the Ministry of Mobility (Cl. 13 No. 37 - 35); in the Ministry of Transport (Cl. 24 with Cr. 63); in the Movistar Arena; in the 3 Elephants Bay (Av. Boyacá No. 21 - 55); the Transport terminals of the South, North and Salitre; the TransMilenio station; the President's House (cr. 7 with cl.. 147 ); the facilities of Canal RCN (Av. Americas with cl. 65) and the Caracol Canal building (cl. 103 with cr. 70).
The portals of TransMilenio de las Américas; that of the Tunal; that of the South; that of 80th Street; that of Usme; that of July 20; El Dorado; Suba and that of the North are also under notice of probable sittings.
“I have asked all people who will demonstrate publicly and peacefully according to what the Constitution says, to do so quietly, in accordance with the legal norms in force. That acts contrary to criminal law are not going to be eaten, we will have devices from the judicial police, the Esmad, traffic and transport, diversion of roads, we are prepared and we hope that nothing will happen,” said General Vargas.
The motorcyclists disagree with what was raised by the mayor of Bogotá, according to them, the local president is mistaken in claiming that the ban on the barbecue will prevent acts of violence in the city. “Many know that they are warm water wipes. She is telling the citizens and the message she sent is that everyone is doing their part, but of course, she says so because she has her armored car, her escorts and is doing well in life,” said Miguel Forero, director of Moto Cultura S.O.S.
“We understand that these measures affect the daily life of citizens, but we ask motorcycles to have their identification and restriction, only three nights, not because we have something against them, but for the safety of everyone,” commented the mayor, who, in addition, plans to deliver the results of the new measures on the 30th of June, when it is also expected to know whether the measure will continue or be interrupted.
