This Wednesday, April 6, a counterflow will be implemented on Avenida de las Américas, between races 74 and 62 in the Outlets of the Americas sector, with a distance of approximately three kilometers. The measure will run from Monday to Friday, between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.

The purpose is to take advantage of the available capacity on the north road of Avenida de las Américas to allow a better flow of vehicles to the east and thus reduce travel times for users. Only light cars, vans and camperos will be able to travel in counterflow there. Motorcycles, bicycles and bicycle taxis are restricted in passage. The approval of the northern road of Av de las Américas will have all the logistical personnel who will guide traffic day by day.

According to the District Mobility Secretariat, more than 7,500 vehicles are transported along this road corridor, from west to east, and around 3,300 cars from east to west, during peak hours. This initiative will improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of Bosa, Kennedy and Puente Aranda.

Figures from the entity show that in the morning rush hours the northern road of the Avenida de las Américas corridor presents good mobility conditions since the vehicle volume that travels in the east-west direction (3,300 veh/h) is lower than the volume that travels in the west-east direction (7,500 veh/h), then, with the end of optimizing the use of infrastructure The mobility sector wants to meet the needs of users traveling to the east by providing them with an additional lane.

The counterflow will begin in race 74, near Portal Banderas, and will end in race 62. The beneficiary users are those who live in the towns of Bosa and Kennedy and who travel along this west-east corridor and preferably who share their vehicle. In addition, citizens will continue to use the road in the west-east direction and will somehow benefit from having greater capacity to move.

In addition, what is sought is to take advantage of the available capacity on the northern road with on-road management measures that allow a better flow of vehicles to the east, and thus reduce travel times for users.

According to an analysis by the Secretariat, travel times at 7:00 a.m. generate times of 25 to 30 minutes on the journey from the west east, between race 74 and race 62. Initially, it is proposed to reduce travel times and improve the speed of circulation in the section under study.

What does it consist of?

The measure consists of enabling a lane on the north road of Avenida de las Américas in a west-east direction. The counterflow will begin in race 74 near Portal Banderas and will end in race 62 Outlets of the Americas, with a distance of approximately 3 kilometers. On race 62 through human traffic lights they join race 62 moving north to take 13th Street so they can continue east and/or return to Avenida de las Américas.

Likewise, as a complementary measure, Mobility will implement a closure of the ear of the south-western side of Avenida de las Américas with Boyacá Avenue between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. from Monday to Friday. This action seeks to eliminate the conflicts that occur in the output of the connector and thus benefit the vehicles that circulate in a
