With a beautiful design and predominantly purple color, the new 50-peso banknote won over several copies from other parts of the world and won an award considered to be the best in its denomination and creation of 2021.

With an axolotl as the protagonist on one of its faces, this polymer piece received the “Banknote of the Year Award” by the International Banknote Society ( IBNS). This is the second time that one of the Banco de México banknotes has been awarded, as we must remember that Sor Juana's 100-peso banknote was also awarded.

In that sense, we must remember that dozens of people or even collectors are looking for unique pieces every day. However, some tickets are offered at exorbitant prices through a commercial internet platform.

And it is that although the pieces can be marketed at the desired price, the ideal is to visit an expert or specialist from a numismatics store, to know the real cost of copies.

Billete 50 pesos. Mercado Libre

It will be important to detail that this specimen is quoted at stratospheric prices, according to some users of an internet trading platform. Below we will explain their characteristics and the highest costs in which they have been found.

According to the Banco de México (Banxico), the copy was put into circulation as of October 28, 2021.

The copy, with a nominal value of 50 pesos, is part of one of the most current families with which Banxico is part, the G. The piece bears on its obverse a vignette of a fragment of the back of the monolith called “Teocalli of the Sacred War”, which shows an eagle perched on a prickly pear with the “Atl tlachinolli” * on its beak; it is currently on display in the National Museum of Anthropology and was sculpted by the Mexican civilization, under the orders of Moctezuma II.

In addition, the reverse represents the ecosystem of rivers and lakes with the famous axolotl and corn in Xochimilco, in Mexico City, a world cultural heritage site.

This specimen was found for sale between 300 thousand and up to half a million pesos by the Mercado Libre platform, according to two people who shared the image.

According to the Banco de México, its design has Mexican historical and cultural characteristics, as well as new graphic motifs to be awarded.

The copy was produced by the new printing complex of Banco de México, which is located in the state of Jalisco, and began operating just before the coronavirus pandemic.

It will be necessary to detail that, the banknote has significantly improved the security characteristics that coordinate the transition to a polymer substrate. Polymer banknotes continue to be IBNS favorites and are now prize winners.

Its main security elements are: touch-sensitive reliefs, growing folio, linear backgrounds, color-changing element, transparent window and fluorescence.

For its part, it should be remembered that another ticket that was awarded and is also offered on the same website is that of 100 pesos from Sor Juana. It is the copy with a nominal value of 100 pesos and predominantly red color, which was awarded as the best “banknote of the year” by the International Bank Note Society (IBNS), and on one of its faces it has the effigy by the poet Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz.

The piece we are referring to is quoted by a commercial internet platform from over 28,500 pesos to 70,000 pesos, according to some users who shared the image and the cost of the sale.
