The national registrar Alexander Vega Rocha, has been involved in several scandals after the last legislative elections on March 13, different sectors of the country have pointed out irregularities in the process of scrutiny and counting carried out by the body that he heads. After the Senate of the Republic summoned Vega to a debate of political control and he did not attend, the President of the Upper House, Juan Diego Gómez, affirmed that Vega sent a letter justifying his absence in a rather particular way.

It should be noted that Alexander Vega makes little use of the media to give statements, and in this case, the way in which he assumed this situation is quite curious, considering that he discredited the same congress with regard to a situation that concerns all Colombians, W Radio, consulted Senate President Juan Diego Gómez, who expressed his concern and rejected the position of the controversial Vega.

Although some versions of the registry office pointed out that Vega Rocha would not attend this debate due to different commitments he had in his entity, although the version of Senate President Juan Diego Gómez is different, since he said: “Clearly, before mentioning that he is engaged in other scrutiny tasks, he sent a letter trying to explain that the Congress of the Republic is not competent to cite a debate of political control, in this case, the procedure was adjusted to be an invitation, but the clear thing is that the Colombians were left in the debate and facing the competent authorities, it must be said that last March 13 is a shame for the country, has no precedent in the last 30 or 40 years to the history of Colombia”.

The President of the Senate does not agree with the process of appointing the juries, adding that the process of training them may have been subject to little diligence on the part of the entity and that the report of the registry office fails to convince him. In the same way, he asked to conduct a constant curation to verify if there are any background anomalies, or it was simply a human error, in contrast to this, he assured: “the truth is that the report and the answers given by the registry office are quite light, quite soft, they have not developed the underlying issues of how they were to select the voting juries, how was their training, who designed the algorithm for choosing them, which ones were provided by political parties and which were randomly chosen by the registry office, as was the digital registration of ballots expressly prohibited by an article of the law”.

Gómez, went out in step by calling on the presidents of the Courts to appoint an Ad Hoc Registrar for the presidential elections, since he points out that the complex picture of credibility on the part of Colombians leaves in between the guarantees that may exist for this process. It is important to bear in mind that one of Vega's contenders, in his aspiration to the registry office, explained to the Cambio Magazine weeks ago, that at the time there was favoritism on the part of several judges, because of the different attentions that the current registrar allegedly gave them, this, in order to earn points for their election.

Finally, the picture that the senator sees is quite negative, as he highlights the elections on May 29 are at risk of not taking timely measures, given that Gómez asserted that “what exists today is an imminent danger that the presidential elections will be fraudulent and end any fate in the country.”
