Salma Luévano Luna, the first trans deputy in Mexico, filed an impeachment complaint against Gabriel Quadri, because of the hate speech she has spoken against her and the transgender community. Regarding the legal action it has decided to take against Quadri, the policy stated on its Twitter account:
“As a Federal Legislator, I am firmly committed to defending TRANS women and my LGBTTTIQ+ population from violators like Gabriel Quadri. That is why I have filed a formal complaint with the Chamber of Deputies demanding impeachment for Quadri.”
Gabriel Quadri responded in an interview: “I would be willing to have a conversation and discussion forum with representatives of the transgender community in our country to confirm that I do not have any kind of feeling of transphobia. I deeply respect them as people and respect the freedom they have to manifest and express themselves sexually in terms of gender.”
According to the portal of the Senate of the Republic, an impeachment trial is a procedure that consists of removing, and even disabling, any of those public servants who do not properly fulfill their duties. Should the complaint of the activist of the Movimiento de Regeneración Nacional party (MORENA}) proceed, Quadri could be removed from his current position.
Through another tweet, the president of the collective “Juntes for the Path of Diversity”, also thanked Andrés Manuel López Obrador for his support. He published: “I said it and I will continue to say it, it is an honor to be with Obrador. Thank you for your support to our Trans and LGBTTTIQ community Mr. Presidente ¨, accompanied by a video in which the president of Mexico, in relation to the behavior of the panista, said:
¨Now that a person who defines himself as a woman, climbs up and disrespects him. Why do we get into that, why not respect. Well, that's what conservatism is like, and I'm not going to get tired of saying it because this helps that retrograde thinking not to advance”, he added.
The last event in the Quadri-Luévano case that caused controversy occurred during an ordinary session of the Chamber of Deputies, when the blue and white deputy called the deputy “sir”, who spoke about what happened stating:
“Calling me 'sir' and ignoring my gender identity as a woman is clearly gender-based violence and also hate speech and for that reason, they are killing us and I will not rest until I see it in the catalog of sanctioned subjects and that it never appears on the ballot again.”
Before that, during the first days of March, the deputy announced on social networks that she had denounced the politician for Political Violence against Women for reasons of gender before the National Electoral Institute (INE). At that time, he argued that the constant attacks received hamper his legislative work.
In addition to the complaints, there is a list of public actions to express rejection of Quadri's behavior, classified by many as transphobic. Only at the beginning of the year did he disguise himself as Gabriel Quadri to demand his lawlessness and was shaved as a form of protest against his speeches, considering that they incite hatred towards the transgender community in the country.
Gabriel Quadri has shown a controversial attitude towards the transgender thematic agenda. Among the actions for which it has received criticism are the filing of a reservation to prohibit parents or guardians from making decisions about medical procedures related to trans childhood and stating on Twitter that the movement intends to dehumanize and objectify women, turning them into “people” pregnant women or “people with vagina”.
In addition, Salma Luévano Luna, has not been the only one to receive comments from her regarding her gender identity. The trans MP, Maria Clemente, has also been affected by the behavior of the former member of the Nueva Alianza party.
