The National Government issued Decree 504 of April 4, which defines a tariff of 0% for 12 months for various products essential for the development of agricultural activities and that impact food production costs.
These are 39 tariff subheadings which include: preparations used for animal feed; feldspar; nitrogen; sodium hydroxide; magnesium nitrates; other calcium phosphates; methanal; salts of propionic acid; citric acid; drugs containing hormones for veterinary use and insecticides.
This decision complements those adopted through Decree 307 of March 3, which deferred the tariff to zero on 165 goods imported into the country. Minister of Agriculture Rodolfo Zea Navarro, assured that this decree hopes to combat inflation that affects consumers' pockets.
For her part, the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, María Ximena Lombana Villalba, explained that the increase in maritime taxes has affected several products that are necessary for Colombian agriculture and this is reflected in the price.
In this regard, the Minister of Finance and Public Credit, José Manuel Restrepo, pointed out that the measures “are necessary to address global upward inflationary pressures, which have had negative effects on prices, especially food.”
Restrepo said that this series of measures to reduce tariffs on inputs for agricultural production is expected to begin to translate, little by little, into relief for the pocket of Colombians.
In addition, Decree 504 also adds another 36 tariff subheadings that were already in Decree 307 of last March (all agricultural inputs), this to extend the reduction of the tariff to 0% for a further 6 months. That is, they would complete a year with zero tariffs.
Among these are: onion bulbs; corn grits; beet seeds; carrot seeds; vegetable seeds for sowing; fertilizers and tools, among others.
The war between Ukraine and Russia directly affects not only the nations involved but Colombia, since the agricultural inputs imported into the country largely come out of this region.
Fertilizers and imports of this product to Colombia come mainly from Russia, the United States and China, capturing 70% of the country's domestic market.
