Mariana Gómez del Campo Gurza, deputy of the National Action Party (PAN) bench, asked at the session of April 5, 2022 to observe a minute of silence due to the loss of human life in Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
This is after Ukrainian authorities revealed that more than 400 bodies were recovered in the city of Bucha, near Kiev, after Russian troops left the area.
Ukrainians denounced the massacre committed by the Russian army in that city in the north of the country, which was besieged and bombed for weeks and in which, when recovered by the country's troops, hundreds of bodies were found in its streets, most of them civilians.
Ukrainian Attorney General Iryna Venediktova said the bodies of 410 civilians had been recovered. Some of the bodies had their hands tied behind their backs and had gunshot wounds to their heads.
However, the measure became the subject of discussion, as the deputies of the bench of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) opposed the issue. It was through the vice-coordinator Leonel Godoy that it was argued that until that time it was not known for certain whether it was any kind of montage.
In addition, the official made ironic comments against Gómez del Campo, who urged to appear before international instances as a “war correspondent” to expose the case.
“It seems to me that there is someone here who thinks he is a war correspondent because he has already seen everything, that matter that he is seeing that the hague takes him there because he has already solved it,” said Godoy.
For his part, President Sergio Gutiérrez Luna asked for a moment to give analysis to the proposed topic, while giving way to the commemoration of the International Day of Transgender Visibility.
At the moment, PAN deputies took to social networks to make various complaints and attacks against their colleagues from Morena. Such was the case of Jorge Triana, who assured that with this decision, the cherry deputies “already openly assume themselves as pro-Russians”
“They openly support the invasion. Today they furiously refuse something as elementary as keeping a minute's silence for the people killed in the Bucha massacre, Ukraine,” he wrote on his official Twitter.
The deputy who proposed the minute of silence, Gómez del Campo, wrote that her arguments are only “another example of her callousness, lack of empathy and ignorance of international law.”
Mario Riestra Piña, on the other hand, assured that the Morenoist deputies “ridiculously argued a possible assembly and that it would mean “submitting” to the United States,” therefore, he reminded them that “Mexico promotes human rights in its foreign policy”.
Finally, Paulina Rubio joined the claims, who wrote through her official Twitter: “Morena does not want 1 minute of silence because she says what to investigate if the dead in #Ucrania ARE REAL!!! ”.
Gabriel Quadri, a prominent opponent of the Fourth Transformation policies, commented on the same social network: “The Mexican government's complicity with Russia clearly illustrates the loss and perversion of foreign policy.”
Other figures outside the Chamber of Deputies, such as former official Javier Lozano, considered after the discussion that those responsible “are complicit in war crimes” and added the hashtag #MorenaCuevaDeDelicuentes.
After the discussion, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, a member of the Labour Party (PT), requested a minute of silence due to the loss of life in the conflict between Morocco and the Sahrawi Republic.
In response, the chairman of the Board of Directors, Deputy Sergio Gutiérrez Luna of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) granted a minute of silence for the loss of human life in both conflicts.
