“The pandemic has generated a carousel of news from morning to night: infections, patients saying goodbye to their loved ones through the various internet platforms, mass burials, experiments with medicines that we don't quite know whether or not they serve to counteract the virus, vaccines that are already being distributed by the richest countries to their citizens (...) And it occurs to me not only that I am going to die at any moment, but that all of a sudden I have begun to become aware of the impermanence of everything around me.”

This excerpt is part of the introductory paragraph of Shipwreck Blog, perhaps one of the literary successes left by the pandemic during 2021. And the fact is that its author, the Bogotá artist Mario Mendoza, managed to combine -again- a fact about which many people felt the anthropophagous presence of death through an event that, contrary to the concept of many people, did not make human beings any better, with an imminent fall into the abyss, 'touching bottom' as an act for reflection that things can get worse.

Dozens of reviews have been made about this title, which became a symbol of resistance -like the vast majority of Mendoza's texts- in the face of the pandemic and which, two years after the health emergency in Colombia, continues to attract readers, to the point that the author will talk about that Shipwreck Blog in the next edition of the Bogotá International Book Fair -FilBo- 2022.

And when asked, will it only be presented one day at the fair? The answer is: no. Mario Mendoza will be at the literary event twice: find out below the days and times when he will be chatting about some of his recent work.

2. On Sunday 24, the author of works such as 'Diary of the End of the World', 'A Stairway to Heaven' and 'Scoprio City' will be in the same auditorium at the same time, except with Keko Olano, his partner in the adventure of creating graphic novels that maintain the magical essence of the gloomy. Together they will present The Fugitives, the second work belonging to the trilogy 'Mysterion'. This meeting will also be face-to-face.

Exactly speaking of texts, another event to be highlighted within the framework of the FilBo is the third national meeting of proofreaders, whose presence in Corferias will take place on 20, 21 and 22 April. There, more than 150 professionals in style correction (including students, teachers and novel editors) are expected to present their papers on the challenges of the trade with written Spanish.

Six talks with professionals from this guild, two professional workshops on style correction and two panels, one with important national publishers and the other with graphic designers, will make up the program during the three days, and according to Fernando Alviar, president of the Colombian Association of Style Correctors, said that this partnership with FilBo “greatly expands the possibilities of making valuable contacts within the publishing sector and of establishing a network of collaboration, knowledge and opportunities for all of us who work in proofreading.
