On October 18, 2021, Valeria Ayos was chosen to represent Colombia in Miss Universe, the most important international beauty pageant in the world. However, this Wednesday it was decided that María Fernanda Aristizábal will be the woman who will lead the Colombian band in the contest.
At a press conference that took place in the early hours of the day, Natalie Ackermann, president of the Miss Universe franchise in Colombia, announced that it will be Miss Colombia 2019 who will be going to the international competition, because this year they gave organizations the opportunity to “appoint” the representative.
Similarly, the Pereirana model thanked all those who always gave her support and believed that she would have the opportunity she saw lost, crowning herself months before the covid-19 pandemic ruined the celebration of Miss Universe 2020.
Another conflict that had been added to prevent Aristizábal from entering the international beauty reign, is that, just that same year, the National Beauty Contest (CNB) lost its rights to send a candidate to the most important kingdom in the world, considering that they never had a direct license with the contest (the which Ackermann acquired), but by means of agreements with companies and individuals sent the representative.
On the other hand, Natalie Ackermann said that she has everything ready for the next edition of Miss Universe Colombia: “We have two years of leave and we are going to do both the designation and the contest. In the coming days we will open registrations for Miss Universe Colombia 2023. We are going to have the 2023 casting this year and, depending on the times of Miss Universe, we will hold the contest later this year or in early 2023″.
According to the complaint of Raimundo Angulo, president of the CNB, Natalie Ackermann was charged with the alleged crime of usurpation of industrial property rights, and another legal action was brought before the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce.
The truth is that the businesswoman acquired everything legally and is now the owner of the franchise that has the rights to choose the Colombian quota for Miss Universe and that is why, according to Abelardo de la Espriella and his team of lawyers, such a complaint has no future.
“There is no impact on national heritage or historical institutions. The CNB is a private initiative that, due to the free autonomy of private will, has lost interference in the selection of the representative of Colombia for this important international beauty event”, quotes the statement issued by De la Espriella Lawyers, the law firm that represents it.
