The situation in Ica is out of control and is beginning to affect passers-by. Interprovincial buses in the area would have been stranded for two days, because protesters are now collecting quotas to let them pass. In addition, those who do not pay the required amount are attacked with stones.
Valeria, a young woman at kilometer 278 of the Panamericana Sur, told Latina that the bus where she is located has been attacked with stones and they are too afraid to leave. He also pointed out that there are five children and two elderly people, who should not remain in this situation of threat.
He demanded the presence of the National Police on the spot, since at the time he was detailing his experience, he reported that there was no police safeguard.
It is known that police officers arrived minutes later, but they were quickly outnumbered by the strikers.
On Sunday, April 3, a stoppage of carriers had been called for the 4th and 5th of April. The roads were expected to be released this Wednesday, however, workers in the agro-export sector decided to block the Pan-American South indefinitely.
They demand that the price of fuels be reduced, the cost of products in the basic family basket and that President Pedro Castillo talk with them, since he does not acknowledge the agreements reached with the Government and which they considered to have been taken by other unions that do not represent them.
These blockages occur on various sections of the road. By 4 a.m., the police had already cleared kilometer 300 of the Pan-American South; however, they encountered new picket lines from protesters at Kilometer 278, at the height of the area known as Chinatown.
According to a report by América Noticias, protesters are forcing some heavy-duty drivers to use their vehicles to block the tracks and prevent another vehicle from passing.
At the moment, 300 troops are trying to clear the track. Many buses have preferred to turn around and get away from the fighting. Others who sought to avoid unemployment in regions ended up in Ica, thinking that there would be a free pass. But now they are two days or more stranded, surviving on the help of the taps that give them food, when they can.
