Abel Salazar was romantically involved with women from the world of politics, as well as actresses from the Golden Age, but only one of them remained until the end of his days.
One of the first romances that Abel Salazar had was with Gloria Marín. Their courtship began since they were both entering the film industry. The histrions were so in love that they decided to take the next step in their relationship and got engaged.
However, love didn't last long, because when Gloria starred in ¡Ay, Jalisco, don't laugh! together with Jorge Negrete ended their relationship. During the filming of that film, the chemistry between Charro Cantor and Marín emerged, something that neither of them sought to suppress despite the fact that both were romantically engaged.
The protagonist of History of a great love ended with her engagement with Abel to officially begin her romance with Negrete, breaking the heart of her first fiancé.
Salazar would have been in deep sadness for several years, even away from the public eye for a while, but when he decided to return, he found his new love within the highest spheres of Mexican politics.
Alicia Cardenas, daughter of then-President Lazaro Cardenas, married in February 1944 with the protagonist of The Vampire. Little is known about the courtship between the general's daughter and the actor, since it was until the wedding that the relationship would have been made public.
It is also unknown how long they were married, but it is believed that it was 13 years old. During their marriage they procreated two daughters, Leticia and Alicia, about whom there is also little information.
Upon her divorce, Salazar would have tried to resume her affair with Gloria Marín, since the histrionist allegedly had been unfaithful to Jorge Negrete with Abel, which caused the engagement to come to an end.
In 1958 Gloria married her first fiancé. The public thought that, since they had reunited after so many years, they would surely have realized that they were soul mates. However, the opposite happened.
Love was no longer the same as 17 years ago, as they were artists made with new goals and interests, which would have made them clash on several occasions. According to the press at the time, their union would have been so stormy that they decided to divorce a few months later, however, it was not that easy.
For several months they would have been fighting legally to determine under what terms their relationship would come to an end, until, finally, in 1960, they succeeded.
At 43, Abel would have met Rosita Arenas, who would be his true love. The couple met because of the events in which they had met, but they would not have entered into any relationship. It was until Salazar hired her for one of his films that mutual attraction would have been born.
Their wedding was held in 1967 and was one of the ones that attracted the most attention of the public in its time, as it was known that the two had had a very bad love past. However, this would have been the occasion when they were finally able to enjoy love.
During their marriage they procreated a daughter, Rosa, of whom they were both deeply proud. On several occasions they allowed them to make photo reports of little Rosa playing, eating or simply smiling.
The protagonist of Los Tres Huastecos even said that for her Abel was one of the most wonderful men in her life and who she would always have a deep affection for her.
The Venezuelan and Abel maintained their marriage until he died at the age of 76.
