In the last few hours, vice-presidential candidate Francia Márquez reacted to a triune made by journalist Gustavo Rugeles and asked the Prosecutor's Office to conduct a criminal investigation of the man for his statements. The journalist published some photos and information about one of the children of Colombian politics, which for her was an attack on her family.
On April 3, Gustavo Rugeles, director of El Expediente, published on his official Twitter profile what he described as a 'fact' about one of the sons of Francia Márquez, Gustavo Petro's vice-presidential formula. “Carlos Adrian Márquez son of Francia Márquez studied in Cuba. The vice-presidential candidate has always had ties to the island where, together with Piedad Córdoba, she also usurped the place of the real victims of the FARC,” wrote the journalist.
He also added three images to reinforce his statements. The first photo is a publication that Carlos Adrian Márquez made on Facebook on December 1, 2021, wishing his mother a happy birthday; the second evidence that the young man studied at the Latin American School of Medicine, located in Cuba; and, finally, a photo of Francia Márquez's son.
For her part, the vice-presidential candidate answered the journalist's trill in the last few hours and held him responsible for any attack her son might receive. “I hold you responsible for what may happen to my children. I demand that the Prosecutor's Office initiate a criminal investigation into the insults and slander unfounded by this man,” Marquez wrote.
Several people described the journalist's trill as' unnecessary 'and 'far-fetch'. “Mr. Rugeles, what is the crime of studying in Cuba, does any article in the constitution or the penal code classify it as a crime?” ; “Is the crime, study? Or because he didn't do it in universities like La Javeriana, Andes? Or not to be involved in scandal?” , said several social media users, even recalled the scandals in which he was involved for allegedly assaulting several women.
However, Rugeles responded to the candidate with a series of questions that became a thread on Twitter. “Mrs politician Francia Márquez could please indicate what 'slander' is. Is it false that your son studied in the Cuban dictatorship? Is it false that you were in Havana with Piedad Córdoba?” , the journalist began to write.
In addition, Francia Márquez also recently denounced a third threat against her in less than a month. The latter came from the self-described Black Eagles and was known due to a pamphlet in which it is identified as a military objective, as well as the candidate for the presidency, Gustavo Petro.
“We have been warning him and the time has come for Colombia as a whole to realize that the Chavista drug guerrilla is about to come to power at the head of alias el cacas and with whom we have said he is an ELN militant, the black hijueputa of Francia Márquez,” says the poster of the Black Eagles of the Capital Block that he shared on his networks social the environmental leader.
Marquez said at a press conference in Bello, Antioquia, that he informed the Attorney General's Office of the first two threats, but he has not received a response from the entity that indicates the initiation of an investigation. “We reported the two previous threats to the Prosecutor's Office, I still don't even get a call from someone from the Prosecutor's Office saying 'we're worried about this',” said Petro's vice-presidential formula.
Faced with the situation, Francia Márquez requested an appointment with the Attorney General of the Nation, Francisco Barbosa, from which he has not yet received a response.
